EMERIE CATLIN, Washburn Rural
A senior, Catlin teamed with Izzy Haggard to advance to the Class 6A state tournament last fall with a second-place regional finish. Catlin and Haggard won the city championship in No. 2 doubles and finished second in doubles in the Centennial League meet. Catlin and Haggard went 22-9 on the season, helping the Junior Blues sweep city, Centennial League and regional team titles and tie for fifth as a team at state.
CAROLINA CHEDZOY, Washburn Rural
Chedzoy, a senior, capped her first season at Washburn Rural with an eighth-place singles finish in the Class 6A state tournament. Chedzoy, who went 23-11 on the season, won a regional championship after finishing second in the city and Centennial League tournaments. Chedzoy helped lead the Junior Blues to city, Centennial League and regional team championships before Rural tied for fifth in 6A.
SIDNEY CHINN, Seaman
A senior, Chinn helped Seaman capture United Kansas Conference and Class 5A regional team championships last fall and was a state qualifier in singles. Chinn posted third-place finishes in regional and city competition and finished fifth in the UKC championships.
MADELINE DETERS, Topeka High
Deters, a junior, will be counted on to be a leader for Duane Pomeroy's Trojans this season. Deters qualified for the Class 6A state tournament in singles as a freshman in 2022 and is likely to play No. 1 singles for Topeka High in 2024.
GRACE FUNK, Hayden
Funk, a junior, has earned Class 4A state singles medals in back-to-back seasons for the Wildcats. Funk placed 11th last season at state after a 10th-place showing as a freshman. Funk was a regional runnerup last fall and placed fourth in the city and Centennial League tournaments.
MOLLY GORMAN, Seaman
A junior, Gorman teamed with graduated senior Katie Krumins to win a second straight Class 5A state doubles medal last fall, with Gorman and Krumins finishing seventh after placing 12th in the 2022 state meet. Gorman and Krumins finished the '23 season with a 22-4 record, sweeping city, United Kansas Conference and regional championships. Gorman helped Seaman win UKC and regional team titles along with a fifth-place state finish.
IZZY HAGGARD, Washburn Rural
Haggard, a senior, teamed with Emerie Catlin to advance to the Class 6A state tournament with a second-place regional finish. Haggard and Catlin won the city championship in No. 2 doubles and finished second in doubles in the Centennial League meet. Haggard and Catlin posted a 22-9 record on the season, helping the Junior Blues sweep city, Centennial Leage and regional team titles and tie for fifth as a team at state.
CAMRYN LUX, Seaman
A sophomore, Lux was a Class 5A state doubles placer as a freshman, teaming with graduated senior Kate Eckert to finish 12th. Lux and Eckert finished second in the city meet in No. 2 doubles and placed second at regionals and third in the United Kansas Conference meet as Seaman won league and regional team titles.
AVA RITTER, Topeka High
Ritter was a Class 6A state doubles qualifier last season as a sophomore, teaming with Siena Boiteau to post a fourth-place finish in regional competition. Ritter placed fourth in the city tournament and fifth in the Centennial League meet.
EMILY SHEETZ, Hayden
Sheetz, a senior, and graduated senior Lauren Sandstrom capped the 2023 season with their second straight Class 4A state doubles championship, capping a 33-3 record on the season. Sheetz and Sandstrom won Centennial League and 4A regional doubles titles and finished second in the city meet in No. 1 doubles. Sheetz and Sandstrom earned 4A state medals three straight seasons, finishing seventh in 2021 before winning the back-to-back state titles.
EMMA SWEENEY, Seaman
Sweeney finished her freshman season with an 11th-place state finish in singles in the Class 5A state tournament. Sweeney, who posted a 26-13 record on the season, finished second in the United Kansas Conference and 5A regional tournaments and placed third in the city meet in No. 1 singles. Sweeney helped Seaman win UKC and regional team championships and the Vikings finished fifth in the 5A team standings.
AINZLEY ZULUETA, Hayden
A senior, Zulueta captured Class 4A state singles titles as freshman and sophomore before missing her junior season due to an eligibility issue. Zulueta went 28-2 on the 2022 season to help lead Hayden to the state team title. Zulueta was the '22 city champ in No. 1 singles, placed second to former 6A state champ Jill Harkin in the Centennial League meet and won a regional championship.
