Still playing without senior standout Isiah Johnson and his 30-point scoring average due to COVID-19 protocols, Shawnee Heights went on the road Tuesday night and came home with a big 63-51 United Kansas Conference win over Leavenworth.

Four Shawnee Heights players cracked double figures, led by sophomore Dante' Harrison with 17 points, as the T-Birds improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the UKC.

Andrew Rantz and Harvey Davis both added 12 points for the T-Birds while Nate Pewe had 11 for the T-Birds.

"It was a big win,'' Heights coach Ken Darting said. "I think this is something we can build on. We just need to keep growing every day and I think we will.'' 

The game was tied 12-all at the end of the first quarter, but Shawnee Heights used a 17-7 second quarter to build a 29-19 halftime edge.

Leavenworth cut its deficit to 8 points at the end of the third quarter, but Heights pushed its lead back to double-digits down the stretch.

Tyrese Cannon led the Pioneers with a game-high 25 points.


SHAWNEE HEIGHTS GIRLS 51, LEAVENWORTH 34

Shawnee Heights picked up its first United Kansas Conference victory, outscoring the Pioneers 30-20 in the second half to take control.

The T-Birds led by just a 10-8 margin at the end of the first quarter and opened up a 21-14 halftime advantage before pulling away in the second half.

Senior Adysen Burghart led Heights with 17 points and sophomore Riley Showalter added 13 points for the T-Birds, who improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the UKC.

Shawnee Heights held Leavenworth to 8 field goals while the T-Birds went 20 of 28 at the free throw line.

Senior Aleshia Joned paced Leavenworth with 19 points.


WASHBURN RURAL GIRLS 69, MANHATTAN 31

Washburn Rural sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye scored 19 first-quarter points en route to a game-high 26 points in limited action as Washburn Rural rolled to a 69-31 home Centennial League win over previously-unbeaten Manhattan.

DeLeye had eight first-quarter field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, and also hit a free throw as the Junior Blues put the game away with a 31-7 advantage.

Rural went on to lead 48-15 at the half and 65-25 through three quarters.

MaRyah Lutz and Ella Hurtig both added 11 points for the Junior Blues, who improved to 5-0 overall and in the league. None of Rural starters saw action in the fourth quarter.

Manhattan, which fell to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league, did not have a player with more than 7 points.


JUNCTION CITY BOYS 52, HIGHLAND PARK 50

Junction City scored a late bucket to take a 52-50 Centennial League victory at Highland Park, improving to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial League.

The game was tight throughout, with Highland Park leading 20-16 at the end of the first quarter and 33-29 at the half before the Blue Jays took a 42-39 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Junior Howard Johnson scored 25 points for Junction City while senior Chris Dixon added 18.

Junior Juan'Tario Roberts led Highland (2-3, 2-3) with 23 points while senior CJ Powell added 14 points.


JUNCTION CITY GIRLS 62, HIGHLAND PARK 33

Junction City improved to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial League with a 62-33 victory over Highland Park, which fell to 0-5 overall and in the league.
