The Seaman boys played their final regular-season game at home Thursday night against the Kansas-City Turner Bears, with sophomore Landon Wiltz's 29-point night powering Seaman to a 73-57 United Kansas Conference win.

The Vikings and Bears battled for the first three quarters before Seaman pulled away late.
After jumping out to an early 9-0 lead, the Vikings saw the Bears battle back to within four points, 15-11, at the end of the first quarter.
“To their (Turner’s) credit, they fought back after the tough start,” Seaman coach Craig Cox said.
In the second quarter, Turner had a stretch where they made three consecutive 3-point baskets to take a 24-21 lead, but the Vikings responded by going on a 13-3 run to close out the quarter and lead 34-27 at the halftime break.
Seaman extended its lead to 43-29 in the first 4:30 of the third quarter, but another stretch of four straight Bear 3-pointers cut Seaman’s lead to 49-41 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Seaman pulled away by outscoring Turner 24-16, led by Wiltz, who scored 11 of his career-high 29 points in the quarter.
“Landon obviously was huge for us offensively,'' Cox said. "He got inside, understanding he had a matchup he could take advantage of.''
Seaman (9-11 overall, 7-9 UKC) had three players in double figures, with senior Braden Chapman totaling 11 points and senior Justin Phillips 10. Phillips had seven rebounds while senior Jack Unruh had six rebounds and five assists.
Turner (3-16, 1-14) was led by sophomores Josiah Harris with 26 points and Elliot Berry, Jr. with 19. -- From Charles Spurlock.

Seaman girls bounce back with 60-point UKC win over Turner
On Senior Night at Seaman High School Thursday night, the Lady Vikes controlled the United Kansas Conference game against Kansas-City Turner from the outset, rolling to a 73-13 victory.
The Vikings capped a 18-2 regular season while winnng their second straight UKC title, bouncing back from a Tuesday night loss at Shawnee Heights.
The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 24-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 41-5 at halftime. Seaman shot 15-31 in the first half and were led by senior Taylin Stallbaumer’s 16 points.
The second half saw the Lady Vikes seniors, T. Stallbaumer and Elinore Stallbaumer, play only the first three minutes of the third quarter, with the game well under control. The remaining starters came out with about four minutes remaining in the third quarter, allowing the underclassmen to get some playing time.
The Lady Vikes (18-2 overall, 15-1 UKC) were led by their two seniors in their final regular-season game, with T. Stallbaumer scoring 19 points and E. Stallbaumer totaling 9 points -- all on 3-pointers. Junior Maggie Moulden also scored nine points while freshman Cara Beaton tallied eight points. Junior Kinley Wilhelm led the Lady Vikes with 10 steals.
The Bears (1-18, 0-15) were led by junior Jerzey Hanna with six points. Turner sophomore Alyasha Ollie had five steals. -- From Charles Spurlock.

Centennial League champion Spartans top Rural girls, 39-31
In the final Friday night of the regular season, the Emporia Lady Spartans, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, traveled to Topeka to face the Washburn Rural Lady Blues, ranked No. 9 in Class 6A. In their first meeting of the season, Emporia defeated Rural convincingly, 43-22, but the rematch was a defensive battle, with Emporia pulling away late for a 39-31 win.
The Lady Spartans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first 3:30 of the game and led at the end of the first quarter, 12-5.
However, the Lady Blues trimmed the lead to 15-10 in the second quarter before the Spartans stretched their lead to 23-12 at halftime.
In the first 2:40 of the third quarter, Rural scored eight straight points to trim the lead to 23-20. The Lady Spartans answered once again with a 7-0 run themselves to claim a 30-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Rural cut the lead to 30-29, but Emporia senior Addie Kirmer hit a huge 3-pointer to lengthen the lead to four. With just under a minute remaining, Emporia led 34-31, but Rural had back-to-back turnovers and the Lady Spartans made their free throws, closing out the game with the eight-point victory.

The Lady Blues were led in scoring by senior Zoe Canfield and freshman Maddie Vickery, who both scored 10 points. Vickery also grabbed five rebounds.
Emporia (19-1 overall, 10-0 Centennial League) finished the season as the league champions and will be seeded third in the tough Class 5A West section of the bracket. Those pairings will be released on Saturday. Washburn Rural (13-7, 7-3 Centennial) will find out their seeding in the 6A West bracket on Saturday as well. -- From Charles Spurlock.

Emporia boys outlast Rural in OT, 75-69
The regulation four quarters could not decide the final game of the regular season between the Emporia Spartans and the Washburn Rural Junior Blues, with the Spartans able to avenge a 48-31 loss at home in early February with a 75-69 Centennial League victory in overtime.
The game began with hot shooting from both teams, who combined to only miss three shots combined. Emporia had a five point lead, 16-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The good shooting continued in the second quarter and the teams went into the halftime break with Emporia leading 31-26.
In the third quarter, the Spartans didn’t miss a single shot, going 5-5 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line. However, the game remained a five point difference, with Rural trailing again by five points, 47-42, heading into the fourth quarter.
The Spartans didn’t score in the first 3:30 of the fourth quarter and Rural was able to cut the lead to 49-48. Emporia only scored one field goal and went 6-12 from the free throw line, allowing Washburn Rural to tie the game at 55, sending it into overtime.
In the four-minute overtime, the teams scored a combined 34 points, the most in any quarter during the game. Once again, Emporia did not miss a shot from the field, going 3-3. They also converted 14-17 from the free throw line, leading to the 75-69 victory.
Emporia was led in scoring by junior River Peters with 34 points and senior Sheldon Stewart with 28 points. Junior Nolan Jacob led the Spartans with five rebounds.
Washburn Rural was led by senior Griffin Durst with 18 points and junior Amare Jones scored 16 points. Jones also led the Junior Blues with seven rebounds.
Emporia (13-7 overall, 6-4 Centennial) will be waiting until Saturday to see their matchup in the 5A sub-state playoffs. Washburn Rural (10-10, 7-3) will also be waiting for their sub-state matchup for next week. -- From Charles Spurlock

No. 2 Hayden girls drop 45-39 OT tilt at Eudora
It was a Top 10 showdown in Eudora on Thursday night, with Class 3A No. 2 Hayden facing 4A No. 10 Eudora, with the Cardinals taking a 45-39 overtime decision over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats would start the game going up 11-5 at the end of the first quarter, but struggled in the second quarter and go into halftime tied at 18.
The game would go back and forth from there, with the game having 11 lead changes and seven ties.
The Wildcats had a chance to win at the end of regulation with a Lauren Sandstrom jumper that rimmed out. The game would go to overtime tied at 36.
In overtime it was all Eudora, with the Cardinals taking the six-point decision.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by senior Sandstrom's 15 points, while junior Amelia Ramsey added 12 points.
“Give a lot of credit to Eudora, they played really well and we didn’t match their energy,” Hayden coach Carvel Reynoldson said.
The WIldcats got into foul trouble, with two starters picking up two fouls early in the first half and playing most of the second half with all five starters having three or more fouls.
“We will re-group and get ready for the postseason.” Reynoldson said.
The Wildcats will start postseason Tuesday as the No. 1 seed in their sub-state bracket as they will host Kansas City-Bishop Ward at 7 p.m. at Hayden.
With a Wildcat win they will advance to a Friday second-round game at Royal Valley.

Hayden boys drop two-point decision at Eudora
Hayden's boys and Eudora battled all the way to the end in Friday's non-conference contest at Eudora, with the 12-8 Cardinals pulling out a 58-56 win.
The Wildcats finished their regular season 5-15 and will face off against Kansas City-Ward in the first round of Class 3A sub-state competition.
Highland Park boys wrap up 19-1 regular season
Highland Park's boys, third-ranked in Class 5A, wrapped up a 19-1 regular season and the undefeated Meadowlark Conference championship with Friday's 67-43 romp past Kansas City-Washington at Topeka West.
The Scots will be the top 5A East seed and will host both of their sub-state contests.
Highland Park won its final 13 regular-season games.
Lady Scots cap 14-5 regular season
Highland Park's girls capped a 14-5 regular season with Friday night's 63-42 Meadowlark Conference victory over Kansas City-Washington.
The win also wrapped up the Scots' Meadowlark Conference championship.
Chargers roll to 33-point UKC win over Pioneers
Topeka West's boys closed out their regular season with Friday's 68-35 home romp past United Kansas Conference foe Leavenworth.
The Chargers finished their regular season with a 13-7 record and will be at home for their Class 5A sub-state semifinal, facing city rival Seaman. West went 11-5 in the UKC.
West girls limit Leavenworth to 15 points in 41-15 rout
Topeka West posted its eighth win of the season on Friday, with the Chargers rolling to a 41-15 United Kansas Conference win over Leavenworth at West.
West finished the regular season 8-12 overall and 7-9 in the UKC.

Silver Lake girls wrap up perfect 20-0 regular season
Silver Lake finished off its 20-0 regular season with a Thursday night 58-36 Mid-East League win over Wabaunsee.
The Eagles, top-ranked in Class 3A, opened up a 14-2 first-quarter advantage over the Chargers and led 34-11 at the half before cruising the rest of the way.
Senior Makenzie McDaniel scored a game-high 25 points for the Eagles while sophomore Kailyn Hanni joined her in double figures with 10 points.
Eagles recover from slow start, take 15-point win over Chargers
Silver Lake's boys trailed Wabaunsee 19-13 at end of the opening quarter but the Eagles outscored the Chargers 45-24 the rest of the way, holding Wabaunsee to 8 points over each of the final three quarters.
The Eagles led 30-27 at the half before outscoring the Chargers 28-16 in the second half.
Sophomore Dayne Johnson led Silver Lake with 22 points while senior Elijah Lopez added 13 points and junior Brody Deiter 11.
Silver Lake improved to 13-7 overall and 7-4 in the Mid-East League.
