Shawnee Heights junior girls tennis standout Jette Glasenapp and Highland Park junior football running back/defensive back Jamon Wilson have been selected by the Dan Key Farmers Insurance Agency as the Rising Stars of the Week.
The Dan Key Agency will recognize top Shawnee County underclassmen throughout the bulk of the 2023-2024 school year.
Here’s a brief look at the accomplishments of Glasenapp and Wilson over the past week:
JETTE GLASENAPP, Shawnee Heights
Glasenapp, a foreign exchange student from Berlin, Germany, is 14-1 this fall while playing No. 1 singles for the Shawnee Heights girls tennis team.
Glasenapp won the championship in Wednesday's Topeka High Invitational at Kossover Tennis Center, going 4-0 on the day, including a 6-0, 6-0 win over Junction City's Hannah Micheel in the No. 1 singles final.
Glasenapp has won 114 of 142 games this season for an 80 percent winning percentage.
JAMON WILSON, Highland Park
Wilson, a junior running back/defensive back, helped lead Highland Park to a 32-26 Meadowlark Conference victory over Kansas City-Schlagle last Friday at Hummer Sports Park.
Wilson scored three touchdowns in the game for the Scots, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
Wilson caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Craig Sipple and ran for 10 and 54-yard TDs. Wilson finished with 104 rushing yards on just seven attempts and also threw for a 2-point conversion.

After scoring just three goals over its first four games, Seaman's boys soccer team doubled that total Wednesday night, rolling to a 6-0 shutout victory over United Kansas Conference foe Topeka West at Hummer Sports Park.
The Vikings, who won their second straight game to improve to 2-3, got the only goal they would need from Jace Brake just 7:42 into the game and held a 2-0 advantage after a goal from Blake Toyne with 14:13 left in the first half.
The score remained 2-0 at halftime before Seaman added four goals in the second half to turn the game into a rout.
"We had a couple of games where the score was lopsided against us,'' Seaman coach Tim Nussbaum said. "It's kind of nice to have a game where we got the score a little lopsided.
"We defended very well first off and after we defended well then you can create opportunities and I thought we created a lot of good opportunities tonight.''

Jette Glasenapp came a long way to make a major impact for Shawnee Heights' girls tennis team this fall.
Glasenapp, a junior foreign exchange student from Berlin, Germany, arrived in the United States on Aug. 5th and has been a very welcome addition for first-year Shawnee Heights coach Phil Hamilton's T-Birds.
Glasenapp has lost just one match in a 14-1 start to the season and went a perfect 4-0 in Wednesday's Topeka High Invitational at Kossover Tennis Center, capped by a 6-0, 6-0 win over Junction City's Hannah Micheel in the championship match. Glasenapp lost just four games on the day.
"My dad studied in the U.S. and he always told me it was going to be fun, so my dad gave me the idea and also some of my friends came here so I kind of always wanted to do it since I was 10,'' Glasenapp said.
Glasenapp said she has enjoyed her short time in America and at Shawnee Heights.
"It's really cool,'' Glasenapp said. "It's been a great experience -- the school, the host family. I really like it.''

It was Rachel (Hickman) Schwensen that got married, tying the knot with Topeka native Nicolas Schwensen six months ago.
But Washburn University's volleyball team also got a present out of that union, with the Lawrence Free State product and former Division I standout joining the Ichabods for her final year of college eligibility.
After starting her college career at Kansas and earning numerous postseason honors in three seasons for Northern Colorado, Schwensen transferred to Washburn for the spring semester to join Nicolas and also joined the vaunted Ichabod volleyball team after making a call to veteran WU coach Chris Herron.
"I reached out to him,'' Schwensen said. "I called him and he was like, 'You know what, come in to campus today.' The same day I called him he told me to come to campus.''
And although the 6-foot-3 rightside hitter doesn't have much left to acomplish in college volleyball, she also wasn't prepared to walk away from the sport.
"I wasn't ready to be done,'' Schwensen said. "Coach always talks about how we need to take advantage of the opportunities that we're given now because you're going to look back one day and you're going to miss it.
"That kind of stuck with me and I don't want to look back and regret not playing again.''
