Rossville opened Class 2A District 3 play with a 70-0 road romp at Atchison County Friday night, with the Bulldawgs evening their record at 2-2 on the season.

Rossville jumped out to a 20-0 first-quarter advantage and took a 35-0 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Bulldawgs tacked on 28 points in the third quarter while forcing a running clock due to the 45-point spread rule, and Rossvill ended its second with a fourth-quarter TD.
Rossville senior quarterback Camden Horak threw for three first-half touchdowns for the Bulldawgs while junior Tayson Horak finished the night with four touhdowns and a 2-point conversion.
Tayson Horak caught 26 and 22-yard touchdown passes from Camden Horak and also ran for a 39-yard TD and returned a punt 55 yards for a score.
Junior Seth Catron caught a 14-yard pass from C. Horak and ran for a 1-yard TD while sophomore Conner Bush scored on 9 and 7-yard runs and sophomores Canann Mitchell and Caleb Broxterman scored on 1-yard runs.
Up next for the Bulldawgs is next Friday's annual War on 24 against Silver Lake at Rossville.

In a monstrous clash that included four ties and a couple of lead changes between Class 6A powers Washburn Rural and Manhattan, Rural celebrated its Homecoming in classic fashion, ending reigning state champion Manhattan's 16-game winning streak with a 35-28 Centennial League win at Bowen-Glaza Stadium.

"Manhattan and Junction City have been ruling the roost for a long time,'' Washburn Rural coach Steve Buhler said. "For us to be able to do this and to compete and win a game against a team like Manhattan, these kids have worked really hard for this moment.
"Our kids just keep battling and that's what we keep preaching to them. This is a very talented bunch of guys we've got and I think the more they get in these situations and are successful the better we're going to be. A win like this one kind of cements for the kids in their minds that they're good enough to compete with good teams in the state.''
Junior King Leonard set up the game-winning touchdown with Washburn Rural's third pass interception of the night, giving the Junior Blues the ball at the Manhattan 31-yard-line.
Rural senior quarterback Branton DeWeese gained 8 yards to the Indian 23 and then DeWeese found a wide-open Blake Recinos and the junior out-raced the Indian defense to the end zone for the game-winner with 25 seconds remaining.
"We scored on spot,'' Recinos said of the game-winning play. "We had a trips right spot and you just had a little out route and you've got to get up and make a play. That's as open as it gets in most cases.
"All that was going through my mind is just get to the end zone. This was a true team effort.''

The Washburn University football team returns home to host No. 25-ranked Central Missouri as part of Washburn's Family Day festivities at 1 p.m.Saturday in Yager Stadium.
The Ichabods are coming off their first win of the season, a 24-10 win at Lincoln, while the Mules are 2-1 after falling to then-No. 3-ranked Pittsburg State 38-37 when a Central Missouri 2-point conversion attempt in the final seconds came up short.

The Mules lead the all-time series with Washburn 28-21-2 in 51 all-time meetings, but the Ichabods have won the last two meetings and three of the last four.
Ichabod senior Taylon Peters has has tied Brandon Rainer for seventh on the Washburn all-time rushing chart with 2,171 yards while his 460 carries is ninth all-time at WU.
The Ichabods have played 10 true freshmen so far this season and have also played 16 redshirt freshmen.
True freshmen Sam Van Dyne (quarterback), Daniel Chavez (defensive end), Washburn Rural product Ty Weber (tight end), Jaquez White (defensive back) and D.J. Bell (wide receiver) all started the game against the Blue Tigers.
Washburn withstood a 62-minute lightning delay at Lincoln and the Ichabod defense held the Blue Tigers to 85 yards of offense through three quarters in their 14-point win and Ichabod coach Craig Schurig said he was pleased with WU's performance.
"Very, very much so,'' Schurig said. "Actually, the proximity of the score was helpful because your guys were in the game the whole way with focus. Obviously we would have felt great 50 to whatever but the way the game was and the different adversity we had to face, we had to start and stop, it was just what we needed.
"Hopefully we seed a big improvement (this week) but we got guys in and we felt like, 'Hey, these guys can play.' ''

Washburn University soccer will conclude its non-conference schedule against Fort Hays State on Friday at Yager Stadium (6 p.m. start) before hosting Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday (1 p.m.) in the Ichabods' first MIAA contest of the season.

Washburn is 5-1-0 on the 2023 season after posting an 11-6-2 record in '22.
Washburn has won four straight matches for the first time since the first four games to open the 2021 season.
The Ichabods took a 1-0 road win over Emporia State last Friday followed by a 2-1 victory at Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday.
Washburn scored all of its goals in the second half of both matches and did not allow a goal through the first 178 minutes of the weekend.

No. 13-ranked Washburn University volleyball travels to Missouri this weekend for a pair of MIAA road matches, with the Ichabods facing Missouri Southern at 6 p.m. Friday and Central Missouri at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Washburn wrapped up a six-match homestand last weekend with sweeps over No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State to open up the first weekend of MIAA competition.
Washburn is now 8-1 on the year and 2-0 in the MIAA entering the weekend. The Ichabods are tied with Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma for first in the conference as the only undefeated teams remaining.
WU moved up in the AVCA Coaches Poll for a second consecutive week, jumping up two spots to No. 13 after being ranked No. 15 last week.
The Ichabods defeated No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15 last Friday in Lee Arena before taking a 25-17, 25-12, 25-20 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday.
