Washburn Rural's girls golf team went through a somewhat up and down day in Monday's Class 6A regional at Cypress Ridge.

But the Junior Blues achieved their main objective, earning a team berth for next Monday and Tuesday's state tournament at Emporia Municipal.

The Junior Blues shot a four-person score of 346 Monday to earn the third of four team berths for the state tournament.

"Just survive and advance and see what we've got next week,'' Washburn Rural coach Jared Goehring said. "I thought we were right there for a stretch today and it seemed like we just didn't have our best stuff coming in finishing but we'll work on that this week and get ready to go for some positive results next week at the state tournament.'' 

Olathe Northwest won the regional team championship by a 331-335 margin over Manhattan while Rural took third-place by a four-stroke margin over Olathe West, which garnered the final team berth.

Senior Raegan Petersen paced Washburn Rural Monday, shooting an 85 to tie for seventh place individually.

Junior Natalie Peterson tied for 10th with an 86 while senior Olivia Smith tied for 12th with an 87 and junior Reece Randall tied for 14th with an 88 to round out the Junior Blues' top four.

Junior Colbey Stead shot  92 to tie for 20th and freshman Kailyn Petersen tied for 30th place with a 100.

Topeka High senior Avery Zimmerman qualified for her third state tournament as an individual, placing 16th with an 89.

Topeka High finished eighth as a team in the 11-school field.

Hayden runnerup in 4A regional

Hayden, which has placed third in the Class 4A state tournament the past two seasons, finished second in Monday's 4A regional at Wamego Country Club to earn another trip to the state tournament, which will be played next Monday and Tuesday at Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Two-time defending state champion Wamego won Monday's regional by a 367-378 margin over Hayden, led by sophomore Addison Douglass, who shot a sizzling 69 to take medalist honors by 16 strokes.

Sophomore Lauren Borjon tied for seventh with an 88 to pace Hayden while sophomore Izzy Glotbach finished ninth individually with an 88.

Wildcat senior Hannah Reynoldson finished 13th with a 99 while senior Avery Grunert was 17th with a 102, senior Kyleigh Johnson tied for 33rd with a 116 and junior Addyson Baer tied for 35th with a 117.

Silver Lake sweeps 3A-1A regional titles

Silver Lake rolled to an 18-stroke win in Monday's Class 3A-1A regional at Village Greens, while senior Klara Kleinig shot a 75 to win the individual championship by three strokes.

Silver Lake junior Taylor Zordel placed third with an 80 while seniors Kate Osterhaus and Madeline Fieger tied for 11th with 95s, senior Avri Broxterman tied for 23rd with a 100 and sophomore Kailyn Hanni finished 31st with a 104.

Rossville finished eighth as a team, led by sophomore Serenity Bergstresser, who tied for 27th with a 103. 

Silver Lake will compete in the 3A-1A state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Hesston Golf Course.
