Bachelor, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, scored a total of 44 points in two Washburn Rural boys basketball wins on the week as the Junior Blues improved to 11-4 on the season. Bachelor scored 27 points in a 65-60 non-league win over Blue Valley last Tuesday, going nine of 13 from the field with three 3-pointers and six of seven at the free throw line. Bachelor followed that up with 17 points and five 3-pointers on Friday as Rural fought back from a 14-point deficit in the first half to take a 50-42 Centennial League win over Emporia. Bachelor hit six of nine shots and five of six 3-point attemps in the win over the Spartans.

The Junior Blues' senior 135-pound girls wrestler, Fredrickson reached the 100-victory milestone for her career in last Saturday's Centennial League tournament. Fredrickson, who began wrestling as a sophomore, went 3-1 with three pins, including a win over a No. 1-ranked (Class 6A-5A) wrestler as Washburn Rural rolled to its third straight league championship. Rural went 4-0 in the dual event, outscoring its four opponents by a 285-33 margin.

MADISON FREELAND, Shawnee Heights

A sophomore, Freeland captured the 135-pound championship in last Saturday's United Kansas Conference girls wrestling tournament at Seaman. Freeland went 3-0 on the day with pins in 48 seconds, 1 minute, 21 seconds and 1:42 to help lead Shawnee Heights to its fourth straight UKC team title by a 78-52 margin over tournament host Seaman. Freeland improved to 27-5 going into this Saturday's Class 6A-5A regional tournament at Seaman.

JAYCEE GINTER, Washburn University

Ginter, a former Shawnee Heights star, was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 and adding a save with a 0.61 earned run average in four appearances as Washburn University's softball team went 4-1 in the season-opening Lubbock (Texas) Christian Invitational. Ginter struck out 12 against No. 21-ranked Lubbock Christian in a seven-inning complete game shutout, allowing four hits while walking two. Ginter struck out 12 against Colorado-Colorado Springs, allowing just two hits in 6 and 1/3 innings pitched and the junior then tossed five innings in relief against Eastern New Mexico to get the win, striking out five and allowing one run. In the final game of the weekend, Ginter came in with the bases loaded and one out and pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings for the save, not allowing a hit.

LAUREN SANDSTROM, Hayden

Sandstrom, a 6-foot junior, scored a game-high 19 points last Friday night as eighth-ranked (Class 4A) Hayden ran its girls basketball winning streak to five games with a 57-41 home Centennial League victory over 6A Manhattan. Sandstrom, who was an all-tournament pick in the recent Wellsville Top Gun Tournament, hit seven of 13 field goal attempts and five of six free throws in the Manhattan win, with the Wildcats improving to 9-4 on the season.

Thomas, a standout senior wrestler, recorded a 55-second pin in the 285-pound championship match to give Seaman the United Kansas Conference boys team title by a 5.5-point margin over Shawnee Heights last Saturday at Seaman. After receiving a first-round bye, Thomas posted a 41-second pin in his semifinal match before winning his second straight match by fall in the tournament final, improving to 40-4 on the season.
