The first of two midseason tournament weeks for Shawnee County prep basketball teams is on tap this week, with 12 county boys and girls teams taking part in a total of seven tournaments across the state.

Following is a tournament by tournament look at this week's events involving county teams:

TOPEKA INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

At Highland Park

Hayden, host Highland Park, Topeka High and Topeka West's boys teams will all take part in the long-running Topeka Invitational Tournament Thursday through Saturday, along with Lawrence, Shawnee Mission North, St. Marys and Wichita Northwest.

Topeka West (7-1) will open the tournament at 3:15 p.m. Thursday against Lawrence (7-2), followed by St. Marys (8-1) against Topeka High (1-7) at 5 o'clock, Highland Park (8-1) facing Shawnee Mission North (1-8) at 6:45 and Hayden (1-6) closing out the first round at 8:30 p.m. against Wichita Northwest (7-1).

The St. Marys-Topeka High and Topeka West-Lawrence winners will square off in Friday's first semifinal at 6:45 p.m. while the winners of the Highland Park-Shawnee Mission North and Hayden-Wichita Northwest first-round games will clash in the second semifinal at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The place games will be played on Saturday, capped by the championship game at 2:15 p.m.

Topeka West is coming off a 79-67 win over previously-unbeaten Highland Park on Friday night while Hayden is coming off a 51-50 overtime loss to Emporia. Topeka High has not played since a 68-47 loss to Seaman on Jan. 7.

All five Topeka West starters cracked double figures in Friday's win over Hi Park, led by senior Elijah Brooks with 26 points and 14 rebounds and senior Zander Putthoff with 17 points and three 3-pointers. Senior Juan'Tario Roberts scored a career-high 35 points with seven 3-pointers for the Scots.

Junior Joe Otting had 19 points and senior Trent Duffey 14 points for Hayden against Emporia.

Lawrence is coming off a 69-51 win over Mill Valley on Friday while St. Marys rolled to a 73-33 win over Rossville on Friday as Keller Hurla scored 33 points for the Bears.

Shawnee Mission North, coached by former Topeka High coach Pat Denney, dropped a 61-59 nailbiter to Shawnee Mission West on Friday while Wichita Northwest has won six straight games, including an 81-61 win over Wichita West on Friday.

 McPHERSON INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

At McPherson

Seaman's boys will put their 5-2 record and three-game winning streak on the line in Thursday's 4:45 p.m. first-round McPherson Invitational game against Blue Valley.

The Vikings have not played since a 68-47 Centennial League win over Topeka High on Jan. 7, with Seaman's game against Manhattan on Friday postponed.

Ty Henry scored 29 points in Seaman's win over Topeka High while Kaeden Bonner added 20.

The Vikings will be facing a Blue Valley team that is coming off a 74-61 win over Blue Valley West.

The winner of the Seaman-Blue Valley game will advance to a 6:30 p.m. tournament semifinal on Friday to face the winner of Thursday's 3 p.m. first-round game between St. James Academy and Wichita North.

On the other side of the bracket, Free State will face Bishop Carroll in a 6:30 first-round game Thursday before host McPherson will close out the first round at 8:15 p.m. against Derby.

The winner of those first-round games will play the 8:15 semifinal on Friday.

The tournament championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.

BASEHOR-LINWOOD INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

At Basehor-Linwood

Washburn Rural, 4-3 on the season, will open its tournament bid in the Basehor-Linwood Invitational at 3 p.m. Tuesday, facing Piper in a first-round game.

Rural's game against Junction City on Friday was postponed after the Junior Blues beat Manhattan 51-31 in their previous game. 

Senior Quincey Kidd led Rural with 19 points against Manhattan while junior Jack Bachelor added 11 points.

The winner of the Rural-Piper first-round game will advance to a 4:30 p.m. semifinal on Friday against the winner of the first-round game between Junction City and St. Joseph, Mo.

On the other side of the bracket, Olathe West will play Raytown South, Mo. and host Basehor-Linwood will face Louisburg in the first round.

The tournament championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

VIKING CLASSIC TOURNAMENT

At Shawnee Mission West

Shawnee Heights' boys will take a 7-1 record into the Viking Classic at Shawnee Mission West, opening their tournament bid at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday against Wyandotte.

The T-Birds pushed their winning streak to four games with an 82-58 United Kansas Conference win at Turner on Friday.

Sophomore Brennon Dodge led the T-Birds with 17 points while senior Carter Olson added 14 points and 13 rebounds and junior Jeremyah Kendrick 10 points as 12 Heights players cracked the scoring column.

The Heights-Wyandotte winner will advance to a 6:15 p.m. semifinal on Thursday to play the winner of the first-round game between Lansing and Shawnee Mission West.

On the other side of the bracket, Blue Valley North is scheduled to play Turner and Shawnee Mission North will play Grandview, Mo. in the first round.

The tournament championship game is set for 7:45 p.m. Friday.

BURLINGTON  INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

At Burlington

Silver Lake's boys and girls teams will compete in the Burlington Invitational Tournament, with both teams making their tournament debuts on Tuesday.

The undefeated Silver Lake girls, now 7-0 on the season, will play a 3:30 p.m. Tuesday game against Sabetha at Burlington High School, while Silver Lake's boys (4-3) will face Labette County at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at Burlington Middle School.

The Silver Lake-Sabetha girls winner will advance to a Friday semifinal against the winner of the first-round winner between Ottawa and Independence.

On the other side of the girls bracket, Labette County will face Paola and Rock Creek will take on Burlington in the opening round.

The Silver Lake-Labette County boys winner will advance to Friday's semifinals to face the winner of the first-round game between Sabetha and Rock Creek.

On the other side of the boys bracket, Paola will face Ottawa and Burlington will take on Independence in the first round.

Silver Lake's games against Riley County on Friday were postponed.

Silver Lake's girls rolled to a 55-23 win over Wabaunsee in its most recent game, with sophomore Makenzie McDaniel scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and sophomore McKinley Kruger adding 11 points, sophomore Kaylee Deiter eight points and 12 rebounds and junior Taylor Ross eight points and nine rebounds.

The Eagle boys are coming off a 52-49 loss to Wabaunsee despite 21 points from junior Kamryn Kaniper and 12 from senior Troy Heiman.

The girls tournament championship game is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. Saturday, followed by the boys final at 4:45 p.m.

OSKALOOSA MID-SEASON TOURNAMENT

At Oskaloosa

Rossville's boys will take part in a six-school tournament at Oskaloosa, opening with a 6 p.m. Wednesday night game against Atchison County.

Rossville will be back in action at 6 p.m. Friday against Valley Falls and will play a place game on Saturday.

Also in the tournament field are Oskaloosa, Jefferson County North and Perry-Lecompton.

The fifth-place game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by the third-place game at 2:30 p.m. and the championship game at 4 o'clock.

Rossville will take a 1-8 record into the Oskaloosa tournament after dropping a 73-33 decision to St. Marys on Friday.

Junior Kade Perine led the Bulldawgs with 16 points against the Bears.

McLOUTH TOURNAMENT

Cair Paravel Latin's boys and girls teams are scheduled to take part in this week's McLouth tournament.

Cair Paravel's girls will open their tournament bid at 7:45 p.m. Monday against Maur Hill-Mt. Academy, while the Lion boys will take on host McLouth in a 7:30 p.m. first-round game on Tuesday.

Consolation games will be played on Thuesday while semifinals will be played on Friday and place games on Saturday.

Both Cair Paravel teams are coming off losses to Olathe Heritage Christian, with the Cair Paravel girls (2-5) dropping a 42-34 decision and the Lion boys (5-2) losing a 76-75 heartbreaker.

Senior Zach Clark paced five Cair Paravel players in double figures with 19 points while senior Noah Hastert added 14 points.
