Washburn University's basketball teams will be aiming to bounce back from two straight losses when the Ichabods close out a three-game road trip with MIAA tilts at Newman on Wednesday in Wichita.

The women's game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, followed by the men's game at 7:30.

Washburn's women are comig off a tough 76-75 overtime loss at Northwest Missouri last Saturday while the Ichabod men dropped a 79-53 decision to the No. 4-ranked Bearcats.

The WU women, 9-12 overall, 5-10 in the MIAA, will be facing a Newman team (6-15, 3-13) that is mired in a seven-game losing streak.

Washburn has won three games in a row against Newman, including a 47-30 win in the last meeting on Jan. 26, 2022. Wednesday's game will be the only regular-season matchup between the the Ichabods and Jets this year.

The Ichabods are currently ninth in the MIAA women's standings while the Jets are 12th.

Washburn is third in the league in fewest points allowed per game, holding opponents to 57.7 points per game.

WU junior point guard Aubree Dewey is averaging a team high 10.5 points, 3.8 assists and 33.3 minutes per game while adding 4.1 rebounds a start.

Dewey played 44 of the 45 minutes at Northwest Missouri and finished with 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Freshman Natalia Figueroa is the only Ichabod besides Dewey who has started all 21 games and leads the team with 35 3-pointers to go with a 33.0 shooting percentage from beyond the arc while averaging 8.3 points.

Emma Chapman turned in a career performance at Northwest Missouri, posting a career-best 18 points while hitting eight of 11 attempts from the field. Chapman averages 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds on the year.

Former Hanover standout Macy Doebele is one game away from playing in 100 games in her four-year Ichabod career and is averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebound. She scored a layup and hit a free throw in the final second of regulation at Northwest Missouri to send the game to overtime.

Freshman Yibari Nwidadah scored a college-high 17 points at Northwest Missouri and was a rebound shy of her third double-double. Nwidadah is Washburn's leading rebounder with 5.8 boards per game.

Newman's offense is led by Britney Ho, who is fourth in the league in scoring and averages 17.4 points with a 47.7 shooting percentage. She is also 10th in the MIAA in rebounds with 6.6 rebounds per game..

The Washburn men (10-11, 7-8) will be facing a Newman team that is 7-15 overall and 3-13 in the MIAA after winning 84-74 last time out at Nebraska-Kearney.

The Ichabods lead the series 28-7 and have won the last seven meetings.

Sophomore Andrew Orr leads the Ichabods in scoring with 13.9 points per game while averaging 14.7 points in MIAA contests. He scored a career-high 26 points at Missouri Western on Feb. 1.

Tyler Nelson is averaging 11.7 points and 12.3 in MIAA contests. He tied a career-high with 25 points against Nebraska-Kearney and has reached double digits in his last seven of his last eight games.

Hayden product Levi Braun averages 10.0 points and has hit 51 of 114 3-pointers (45 percent) while freshman Brady Christiansen leads the Ichabods with 7.4 rebounds per game.

The Jets are led in scoring by Stevie Strong at 18.3 points per game while Latik Murphy is averaging 13.7 points and Stevie Smith 11.4 points.

The Ichabods will return to Lee Arena on Saturday to face Central Oklahoma in a women's/men's twinbill. The women's game will start at 1 p.m. followed by the men's game at 3 o'clock.
