Topeka West rolled to a Class 5A regional championship Friday at De Soto, qualifying all six players for next week's state tournament at Kossover Tennis Center.

Juniors Ian and Miles Cusick swept city, Centennial League and regional doubles titles for the second straight season, topping Charger teammates Gavin Chavez, a senior, and junior Carter Cool in the inals, 6-1, 6-1.

West sophomore James Maag advanced to the singles final before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Leavenworth's Jack Harris in the title match.

Sophomore Caden McGee rounded out the Charger qualifiers with a fith-place singles finish.

Seaman's Justin Kruse qualified for the state meet with a third-place singles finish on Friday while Shawnee Heights qualified the doubles team of Christian and Garrison Johnson and singles player Jaden Rodriguez.

The Johnsons finished third in doubles while Rodriguez finished fourth in singles, dropping a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Kruse in the third-place match.

Topeka West won the team championship by a 22-11 margin over Shawnee Heights while Seaman finished fourth.

The 5A state tournament will get under way at 10 a.m. next Friday at Kossover, with competition to continue at 9 a.m. Saturday.

HAYDEN ROLLS TO 4A REGIONAL CROWN

Senior Michael Sandstrom and junior Gus Glotzbach teamed up to win the doubles championship in and all-Hayden final in Friday's Class 4A tennis regional at Harmon Park, with Sandstrom and Glotzbach taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision over teammates Patrick Gorman, a senior, and sophomore Joseph Luke in the final.

Wildcat senior Tyler Broxterman qualified for state with a third-place singles finish, winning the third-place match by injury default.

Senior Drew Morgan finished sixth for Hayden in singles as the Wildcats won the team title by a 20-15 margin over Bishop Miege.

The 4A state tournament will be played at Winfield's T.H. Vaughan Tennis Center next Friday and Saturday, with the tournament getting underway at 10:30 a.m. Friday and continuing at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

RURAL QUALIFIES TEAM FOR 6A STATE

Washburn Rural turned in a strong perormance in Friday's weather-delayed Class 6A regional at Kossover, qualifying its entire team for next Friday and Saturday's state tournament at the College Boulevard Activity Center.

Complete results were not available Saturday morning, but the Junior Blues qualified senior Mason Thieu and junior Mason Casebeer in singles and the doubles teams of Nick Luetje and Kyler Knudtson and Jiyoon Park and Zach Willingham for state.

The 6A state tournament will start at 10:30 a.m. Friday with first-round matches and continue at 9 a.m. Saturday.
