Washburn Rural's girls basketball team rolled to a 71-38 victory over Lawrence Saturday, completing a stretch of three lopsided wins in as many days.

And although Rural was a heavy favorite in all three home contests, coach Kevin Bordewick said he had specific goals for his team in addition to winning, which he felt the Junior Blues achieved en route to three wins by a total of 110 points.

"We said, 'We're not worried about the record, we're going to assume that they're undefeated and we've got to be ready to go,' '' Bordewick said. "One of the things that we really kind of emphasized is how we run the floor and running fastbreaks and making better decisions than what we had and I really do think that that showed up.

"I thought the way we got out and ran, I was really happy with that. This group's been really good about we're not into who scores the points, let's just get something scored and go from there, and they've all stepped up and really done that.''

Lawrence jumped out in front 5-0 Saturday, but the 11-1 Junior Blues were in control 20-10 by the end of the opening quarter as 6-foot-2 sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in the quarter.

The Junior Blues went on to take a 43-20 lead at the half behind 17 of 23 shooting from the field and increased their advantage to 63-28 at the end of the third quarter, forcing a running clock throughout the fourth quarter.

Washburn Rural, No. 4-ranked in Class 6A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, shot 55.8 percent for the game (29 of 52) while canning 8 3-pointers.

In addition to DeLeye's big game, the Junior Blues got 14 points and 6 rebounds from junior Emma Krueger, 10 points and a pair of 3-pointers from sophomore MaRyah Lutz and 9 points from junior Ella Hurtig. DeLeye and freshman Jada Ingram added 5 rebounds apiece for Rural.

Sophomore Layla Harjo led the Lions with 10 points (two 3-pointers) while sophomore Amaya Marshall added 8 points and a pair of 3s.
