Washburn Rural's boys swimming and diving team, which will be looking to defend its city championship in Thursday's city meet, turned up for its title defense with a team championship by a 533-378 margin over Seaman in Tuesday's nine-school Topeka High Invitational at the Capitol Federal Natatorium.
The Junior Blues got individual wins from Keats Larson in the 50-yard freestyle (23.44 seconds), Dagen Clouse in the 100 free (50.44), Jack Miranda in the 500 free (5:27.33) and Nathen Trachta in the 100 backstroke (57.98).
Trachta, K. Larson, Jalen Eilert and Brogan Meier also teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 1:48.89 while Clouse, Miranda, Will Powell and Yeager Larson won the 200 free relay in 1:37.28.
Rural got second-place individual finishes from Clouse in the 200 free (1:55.95), Trachta in the 200 individual medley (2:09.73), Marquel Russell in 1-meter diving (246.85) and Meier in the 500 free (5:29.51) while K. Larson, Clouse, Meier and Trachta finished second in the 400 free relay (3:44.46).
Runner-up Seaman was led by Adin Florence, who won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.19.
The Vikings got third-place individual finishes from Daniel Ramirez in the 200 free (1:56.16), Patrick Biggs in diving (183.45), Colin O'Rourke in the 100 butterfly (57.24), Stephen Reed in the 500 free (5:37.87) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.30) while Reed, Marcus Greig, O'Rourke and Blaize Appelhanz finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:55.26) and Ramirez, Appelhanz, O'Rourke and Florence took third in the 200 free relay (1:38.73).
Hayden finished fifth as a team, getting a third-place finish from Hudson Ramirez in the 50 free (24.30) while Aidan Zulueta, Ramirez, Colton O'Bray and Dylan Gregg finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:52.77) and Ramirez, O'Bray, Zulueta and Cole Scheer finished third in the 400 free relay in 3:44.46.
