Washburn University's softball team opened MIAA play Sunday in impressive fashion, posting a 10-1, 10-2 doubleheader sweep at Pittsburg State to improve to 16-3 while extending its winning streak to eight games.

Former Shawnee Heights star Jaycee Ginter Ginter tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the first game, striking out a career-high 11 batters to improve to 7-1 on the season while also hitting a home run.

The Ichabods scored two runs in the second inning of the first game, with Ashton Friend leading off with a double and coming around to score on a Bri Francis home run. The Ichabods stretched their lead to 3-0 on a homer by Hadley Kerschen.
 
Washburn added two more in the fourth inning, with Friend leading off the inning with a double and scoring on a double by Francis, who scored on a double by Maddie Stipsits.
 
The Ichabods added five runs in the top of the sixth, including home runs by Marrit Mead and Ginter.
 
Three doubles by Friend in the game tied an individual Washburn record while the Ichabods had a school-record eight doubles as a team.

Kerschen, Friend and Francis all had three hits to lead the Ichabods while Francis scored three runs. 

The Ichabods also jumped out to an early lead in the second game when Mead led off the game with a single and later scored on a groundout by Ginter.

 Washburn broke the game wipe open with five runs in the second and four in the third.
 
Mead and Friend had three hits in the second game while Mead drove in three runs and scored three times.
 
Reagan Hamm struck out eight in a five-inning two-hitter, improving to 9-2.
 
Friend was six for seven in the doubleheader with four doubles and three runs scored while Francis was four for seven with four RBIs and three runs scored. Mead drove in five runs and scored four runs. Ginter also drove in four and scored three times.

Washburn is sccheduled to host Fort Hays State Friday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Gahnstrom Field.
