Hayden's boys basketball team put itself in position to pull off a Class 4A sub-state Tuesday night before top seed Wamego took control in the fourth quarter for a 64-55 win on the Red Raiders’ home court.

Hayden was deadlocked with Wamego 36-all entering the fourth quarter, but the Red Raiders outscored the Wildcats 28-19 the rest of the way.

Hayden, which finished with a 4-16 record, was led by sophomore Joe Otting with 23 points while senior Vacario Triplett added 13 points and Jake Muller 10.

Wamego (15-5) put Hayden away with a 19 of 24 performance at the free throw line in the fourth.

Jake Fritz scored a game-high 25 points for Wamego with 5 3-pointers and an 8 of 12 performance at the free throw line while Tanner Hecht added 20 points.

Wamego went 28 of 35 at the free throw line while Hayden was 10 of 14.

ST. JAMES ACADEMY GIRLS 97, HIGHLAND PARK 27

Highland Park’s girls basketball team saw its winless season come to a close in a 97-27 Class 5A sub-state loss at St. James Academy.

The Scots. 0-16, trailed 10-8 St. James 26-5 at the end of the first quarter and 53-17 at the half.

Senior Isabella Carter led Highland Park with 15 while junior Aisya Taylor added 12 points.

DE SOTO GIRLS 45, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 34

Shawnee Heights girls turned in a solid defensive effort, but struggled offensively in a season-ending 45-34 Class 5A sub-state loss at De Soto, which improved to 11-10.

The T-Birds, who finished 5-14, trailed 12-4 at the end of the opening quarter, but trailed by just a 15-10 count at the half before the Wildcats opened up some breathing room with a 16-10 third quarter.

Senior Adysen Burghart led Shawnee Heights with 10 points.

ST. MARYS BOYS 68, SILVER LAKE 51

St. Marys used a 22-8 second quarter to open up a commanding 40-18 halftime advantage en route to Tuesday's 68-51 Class 3A sub-state boys win over Silver Lake.

The Eagles outscored the Bears 33-28 in the second half, but were unable to mount a serious charge.

Kamryn Kaniper led Silver Lake (5-15) with 14 points while Ryan Sterling added 13.

Fred Criqui paced St. Marys (18-3) with a game-high 22 points while Keller Hurla added 14 and Noah Jacobson 12.
