Seaman’s boys basketball team continued its late-season surge Friday night at Emporia, riding a solid defensive effort to a 48-32 Centennial League win, the Vikings’ sixth straight win.
Seaman, which improved to 12-8 overall and 10-6 in the league, trailed 13-12 after the opening quarter, but the Vikings outscored the Spartans 13-3 in the second quarter to take a 24-16 halftime advantage and held a 23-16 scoring edge the rest of the way.
Seaman and Emporia (8-12, 4-12) will hook up again Wednesday at Seaman in a first-round Class 5A sub-state contest.
Junior Ty Henry scored 15 points to lead the Vikings while Mateo Hyman, Caden Stallbaumer and Aron Davis added 8 points apiece.
Senior Charles Snyder scored a game-high 17 points for Emporia.
WASHBURN RURAL BOYS 58, HIGHLAND PARK 43
Washburn Rural Joe Berry eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring milestone for his career with a 14-point night and senior Jack Hutchinson added 12 as the Junior Blues avenged an earlier loss to Highland Park, 58-43.

The Junior Blues finished the season 13-6 overall, 12-4 in the league, trailing Topeka West. They will host Manhattan on Tuesday in the opening round of sub-state.
Highland Park, which trailed by 14 points in the third quarter, rallied to get within 6 early in the fourth quarter but Rural regained control down the stretch.
Highland Park (12-7, 11-5) got 13 points from senior CJ Powell. The Scots will host St. James Academy on Wednesday.
EMPORIA GIRLS 37, SEAMAN 29
Emporia got the best of a low-scoring Centennial League game, taking a 37-29 win over Seaman.
Seaman, which lost 49-29 to Emporia earlier this season, trailed 14-10 at halftime but Emporia hit 18 of 24 free throws in the second half to hold off the Vikings (6-14, 6-10).
Emporia junior Gracie Gilpin led all scorers with 16 points as the Spartans improved to 14-6 overall and 11-4 in the league.
Seniors Riley Cowan and Raigan Kramer scored 8 points apiece for Seaman.
Seaman opens 5A sub-state competition Tuesday at home against Topeka West while Emporia will host Newton.
BURLINGAME BOYS 55, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 54
Cair Paravel's boys suffered a heart-breaking 55-54 loss to Burlingame in its KSHSAA postseason basketball debut.
Burlingame’s Austin Tyson hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in the Class 1A Division I sub-state game and the Bearcats preserved the victory with a last-second blocked shot.
Cair Paravel (10-8) was led by junior Noah Hastert and sophomore Luke Fay with 17 points each.
Burlingame got 20 points from Trever Quaney, while Lance Noonan added 13 points and Tyson 12.
MANHATTAN BOYS 55, HAYDEN 52
Hayden’s second-half rally came up short Friday night, with Manhattan holding on for a 55-52 Centennial League win.
Manhattan (9-10, 7-9) outscored the Wildcats (4-15, 3-12) by a 19-8 margin in the second quarter to take a 30-21 halftime advantage and held on for the victory despite being outscored 31-25 the rest of the way.
Sophomore Joe Otting led Hayden 16 points while Vacario Triplett added 15 and Jake Muller 12.
Sophomore Cameron Carr led Manhattan with 18 points while Owen Braxmeyer added 14.
BASEHOR-LINWOOD BOYS 51, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS BOYS 43
Short-handed Shawnee Heights turned in a strong defensive effort in Friday’s United Kansas Conference game against Basehor-Linwood, but the Bobcats were able to hold on for a 51-43 road win.
Shawnee Heights (6-10, 4-5) was led by junior Nathan Pewe with 19 points and 4 3-pointers, while Isiah Johnson added 9 despite a tough shooting night and Brent Showalter had 8.
The T-Birds played without senior Harvey Davis, Jaye Jones and Walker Beier, who were all injured in Heights’ previous game against De Soto.
Basehor-Linwood (15-4, 8-2) trailed 21-20 at the half but took control with a 20-8 third quarter.
Shawnee Heights will once Class 5A sub-state competition at De Soto on Wednesday, the T-Birds’ third late-season game with the Wildcats.
BASEHOR-LINWOOD GIRLS 40, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 31
Shawnee Heights, 5-13 overall, 3-7 in the UKC, was within 2 points with less than five minutes remaining but was held without a field goal the rest of the way as Basehor-Linwood (12-8, 7-3) posted a 40-31 win at Heights.
Senior Taylor Hawkins score 11 points led the T-Birds, while Alexys Augustine scored a game-high 13 points for Basehor-Linwood.
Shawnee Heights will open sub-state play Tuesday at DeSoto.
