Seaman’s girls bowling team is now one win away from a perfect season after a dominating performance in Friday’s Class 5A-1A regional tournament at Gage Bowl

Led by individual champion Makenzie Millard and putting five bowlers in the top 10 individually, the Vikings won the team championship 3,133-2,868 margin over Shawnee Heights, which also moved on to next Thursday's state meet at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.

Millard, a junior, looked to be completely recovered from a thumb injury, taking the individual title with a 666 series, including a final-game 247, while Shawnee Heights senior Brylee Prockish was second with a 592 series.

The champion Vikings also got a sixth-place finish from Alaina Roberson (566), a seventh from Cheyenne Turkin (553), a ninth from Kaitlyn Evans (543) and a 10th-place finish from Katie Price (537).

Topeka West's Megan Wood finished third individually with a 587 series while Shawnee Heights’ Karli Gilliland posted a top-five finish, taking fifth with a 575.

Wood qualified individually for the state meet, while Hayden's Kayla Simons and Isabella Validivia also qualified for state berths, with Simons taking eighth with a 553 and Valdivia finishing 10th with a 515.

Seaman's boys made it a sweep of the teams championships with a win by a 3,310-3,272 count over Shawnee Heights, which edged Hayden (3,267) and Topeka West (3,247) for the final state berth as Aiden VanMetre won the individual title with a 681 series.

Trenton Turkin paced the Seaman boys with a sixth-place finish while Ethan Burns was seventh and Zander White eighth.

Turkin led Seaman with a 622 series, while Burns was seventh and White eighth, with both bowlers netting 616 series. 

VanMetre took the individual championship with a 681 series, putting together games of 232, 235 and 214. 

Topeka West’s Austin McIntosh finished second with a 652 series, with a high game of 238, to lead the individual qualifiers. 

Hayden's Aaron Thomas finished third (647), while West's Dason Tidwell (638) and Justin Brookens (630) went four-five, with all four qualifying for state individually.

RURAL SWEEPS 6A TITLES

Washburn Rural swept the girls and boys team titles in Friday's Class 6A regional at West Ridge Lanes, with the Rural girls winning by a whopping 3,003-2,561 margin over Manhattan.

Rural's girls swept the top three individual spots, led by senior individual champion Hannah Casto, who bowled a 629 series, while Clair Ireland finished second with a 560 and Kaitlyn Doyal third with a 554.

Logan Wiesendanger also finished in the top 10, taking eighth with a 508.

Washburn Rural boys were pushed to the limit by Wichita Heights, but took a 3,286-3,268 win over the Falcons.

Cale Marsh led the Rural boys, bowling a 635 series to finish third, including a 253 game.

Josh Hammons posted a 10th-place finish with a 583 series while Jacob Morgan was 12th (582), Matthew Hartter 13th (580) and Geo Iztep 14th (579).

The Class 6A state tournament will be held next Friday in Wichita at Northrock Lanes.
