Junior Jaley Barkley scored a game-high 24 points as Cair Paravel Latin, which became full Kansas State High School Activities Association member this school year, topped Madison 37-36 Thursday in a Class 1A Division I first-round sub-state game at Cair Paravel, the Lions' first-ever KSHSAA postseason win.
Barkley canned 4 3-pointers on the night and went 6 of 8 at the free throw line to lead the Lions while sophomore Kylie Cleverdon added 6 points as Cair Paravel improved to 6-8 on the season.
Yolani Luthi and Ava Foltz scored 14 points apiece for Madison, which ended its season 8-11.
The game was close throughout, with Cair Paravel leading 5-3 after one quarter before the game was tied at 17 at the half and the Lions took a 23-22 lead into the fourth.
With Thursday's win, Cair Paravel advanced to a semifinal in the Madison sub-state next Thursday (March 4), with the Lions to face 18-0 Olpe in an 8 p.m. contest.
