Washburn’s men’s basketball team will be looking to bounce back from consecutive losses for the first time this season when the 15th-ranked Ichabods host Northeastern State in a 6 p.m. MIAA contest at Lee Arena.
The Ichabods (14-5 overall and in the MIAA) are coming off an 88-85 overtime loss to No. 3 Northwest Missouri on Saturday after dropping an 81-77 loss to Missouri Western last Thursday.
The RiverHawks are 4-15 after sweeping a home-and-home series with Central Oklahoma.
Washburn, second in the MIAA standings, has won the last seven meetings with the RiverHawks.
The Ichabods escaped with an 85-84 overtime win over the RiverHawks on Jan. 2 in Tahlequah, Okla.
Senior point guard Tyler Geiman averages 21 points, 6.1 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals for the Ichabods while junior Jalen Lewis averages 12.6 points and has connected on 46 3-pointers.
Sophomore Tyler Nelson is scoring 10.1 per game and is averaging 11.4 points in the last 10 games since moving into a starting role.
Junior Jonny Clausing averages 10 points, 4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while redshirt freshman Levi Braun, a Hayden product, is averaging 8.5 points with 49 3-pointers.
Trey Sampson averages a team-high 15.1 points and 6.6 rebounds for Northeastern State while Troy Locke averages 12.9 points and Brad Davis 11.2 points.
Washburn will travel to Missouri Southern on Thursday before hosting rival Emporia State on Saturday.
WU WOMEN AT NORTHWEST MISSOURI
The Washburn women's basketball team will begin its final week of the regular season on Tuesday at Northwest Missouri (5:30 p.m.) in a game that was previously rescheduled twice.
Washburn (9-10, 9-10) and Northwest (7-12) will be playing for the second time in four days, with the Ichabods earning a 41-38 win at Lee Arena on Saturday. Washburn is currently seventh in the MIAA standings while Northwest Missouri is eighth.
Senior Hunter Bentley averages a team-high 16.7 points for Washburn, cracking double figures in 17 of 19 games.
Nuria Barrientos averages 10.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.8 steals for the Ichabods.
Molly Hartnett averages 14.1 points to lead the Bearcats while Jaelyn Haggard averages 10.2 points.
