Seaman's boys basketball team bounced back from a tough overtime loss at Highland Park last Friday with arguably its biggest win of the season Tuesday night, taking a 56-47 home Centennial League victory over Washburn Rural.

The Vikings had Highland Park on the ropes in the final seconds of last Friday's game before the Scots forced overtime with a late 3-pointer and pulled away in the extra session for a 55-47 win.

This time it was Seaman that took control late, improving to 7-8 overall and 6-6 in the league while Washburn Rural fell to 9-5 and 8-3, dropping two games behind Topeka West in the league race.

Seaman started the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run, but Washburn Rural cut its deficit to 2 points before the Vikings used another run to regain control and put the game away at the free throw line, hitting 11 of 13 charities on the night.

Washburn Rural led 23-17 at the half and built its lead to 11 before Seaman came storming back to tie the game at the end of the third quarter, 34-34.

Senior Ty Henry paced Seaman with 22 points while junior Mateo Hyman added 12 points and junior Casen Stallbaumer 10.

Senior Joe Berry scored a game-high 25 points for Washburn Rural, with 3 3-pointers, while senior Jack Hutchinson added 10 points.with 2 3s. 

WASHBURN RURAL GIRLS 50, SEAMAN 31

Washburn Rural led by just a 21-14 at the half before pulling away in the second half for a 50-31 victory to improve to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in the Centennial League.

Seaman (4-9, 4-6) was still within 6 points early in the second half but Washburn Rural put the game away with a 17-7 third quarter, opening up a commanding 38-21 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

Junior Emma Krueger led Washburn Rural with a game-high 18 points, while sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye added 13 points and junior Campbell Bagshaw had 10 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Freshman Taylin Stallbaumer paced Seaman with 10 points.

Next up for Washburn, ranked No. 3 in Class 6A  by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, is a showdown with top-ranked Topeka High Friday night at Rural.
