Junior Dayne Johnson scored 35 points Thursday night as Silver Lake's boys improved to 12-4 with a hard-earned 64-60 home Big East League win over St. Marys.

Silver Lake trailed 53-47 at the end of the third quarter before outscoring the Bears 17-7 over the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

Johnson canned 13 field goals and went 9 of 10 at the free throw line on the night to lead the Eagles.

Silver Lake led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bears cut their deficit to 30-29 at halftime before outscoring the Eagles 24-17 in the third quarter.

Silver Lake will take aim on its third win of the week on Friday when the Eagles travel to Royal Valley.

Silver Lake girls improve to 14-2

Defending Class 3A champion Silver Lake, currently ranked No. 6 by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, improved to 14-2 Thursday night with a 67-54 home Big East win over St. Marys.

The Eagles led by just a 44-41 margin at the end of the third quarter before taking control with a 23-13 fourth quarter.

Junior Kailyn Hanni led Silver Lake with 22 points while freshman Karys Deiter was right behind with 18 points.

Taylor Zordel and Savannah Wende scored seven points apiece for the Eagles.

Hayden Heim scored 24 points for St. Marys, hitting 11 of 12 free throws, while Isabel Hurla added 19 points.

The Eagles will travel to Royal Valley on Friday.

Lion boys fall to Council Grove

Cair Paravel Latin's boys came out on the losing end of a 51-39 decision to Council Grove on Thursday despite 17 points from senior Jase Pavlik.

Cair Paravel trailed 12-10 at the end of the opening quarter and 24-19 at the half before the Braves took control with a 17-9 third quarter.

Other than Pavlik the Lions struggled offensively Thursday, with no other Lions scoring more than five points.

Lady Lions suffer 30-28 heartbreaker

Cair Paravel's girls suffered their second straight heartbreaking loss of the week on Thursday, falling 30-28 to Council Grove.

Thursday's loss came on the heels of 40-39 CPLS loss to Cornerstone on Tuesday despite 25 points from the Lions' KellyAnn Chada.
