Led by freshman forward KhloeSchuckman, Washburn University's soccer team scored two goals in the final 20 minutes Thursday to pull out a 2-1 road victory over Missouri-St. Louis, improving to 3-0 on the season.
Washburn's offense struggled to produce any shots until the 61st minutes, but the Ichabod defense held strong, allowing only one goal to keep WU in the game.
At the 21st minute, Kelli Junglewaelter scored off the bench to give the Tritons a 1-0 halftime lead, but that would be the lone goal of the day for the hosts.
Freshman Carlee Thompson (Omaha, Neb.) and junior MattieMiano (Olathe) played all 90 minutes on defense to keep Washburn within reach.

The Ichabods have been a second-half team all year and it showed again, with Washburn tying the game in the 72nd minute on Schuckman's first goal of the season off assists from junior Olivia Harriger (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Taylor Bockover (Wichita).
Then, in the 82nd minute, Schuckman, a former Bishop Carroll standout, scored her second goal off an assist from Tera Lynch assisted Schuckman for the game-winning goal.
After having the fall 2020 season wiped out by COVID-19, Washburn played what was basically a practice schedule in the spring to get ready for this fall.
"In the spring we talked to the players and it was about development the whole time,'' Washburn coach Davy Phillips said. "We wanted to practice our game model and really build it out from the back going forward, so we were less concerned about results in the spring and it's good to see some of the stuff we really concentrated on developing in the spring help us wins games now that we're playing meaninful games.''
On Saturday, Washburn travels to Oklahoma Christian for a 5 p.m. contest.
