Shawnee Heights' volleyball team ruled its home court Thursday night, posting a perfect 3-0 record in a non-league quadrangular.

Led by senior Kali Henry and junior Elise Curry, the T-Birds took a 23-25, 25-16, 25-22 three-set win over Manhattan before sweeping Seaman, 25-23, 25-23, and Silver Lake, 25-21, 25-16.

“I really liked what I saw tonight,'' Shawnee Heights coach Sami McHenry said. "This was the first real competition that we’ve had on our level so far this season, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for us.”

Seaman, which advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals a year ago, opened its night with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-20 win over traditional 3A power Silver Lake and then fell to Shawnee Heights before sweeping 6A Manhattan, 25-13, 25-13.

Solid performances by sophomore Taylin Stallbaumer and senior Drew Baxter highlighted Seaman's 2-1 night.

Seaman coach Tatiana Dowling said the Vikings will need to cut down on their mistakes moving forward.

”I thought we showed glimpses of greatness, but our errors outweighed those glimpses,'' Dowling said.

Silver Lake coach Sarah Johnson was pleased with the way her Eagles battled its 6A and 5A competition in a 1-2 night, highlighted by a 23-25, 25-11, 25-22 win over Manhattan.

“We came out confident and strong,'' Johnson said. "I thought we did a lot of things the right way with our tough matches tonight. We just need to be better at putting ourselves in the right position to win.”
