Coming off a four-goal loss to state power Washburn Rural in its regular-season finale, Seaman soccer bounced back in a big way Tuesday, opening Class 5A postseason with an 11-0 regional victory over city rival Highland Park at Seaman.

Seaman coach Kyle Seevers said it was good to see his Vikings get back on track.

"After that under-manned game against Washburn Rural (5-1 loss) we had graduation and graduation parties all weekend, so it was like get a little training in yesterday and just get back at it and play a game today and have some fun and win and advance,'' Seevers said.

Junior Ava Golightley had a four-goal night for the Vikings while junior Ryin Miller had a three-goal hat trick, sophomore Monique Wilson two goals and seniors Anna Becker and Maegan Mills a goal apiece for the Vikings, who improved to 12-5-0 on the season.

Mills combined with Kelecia Hale for the shutout in goal while Mills' goal was the first of her high school career.

Tuesday's game ended at halftime by way of the eight-goal spread rule.

In addition to its big win over the Scots (6-10-1) No. 5 East seed Seaman also got some help from United Kansas Conference rival Basehor-Linwood Tuesday night, with the No. 12-seeded Bobcats shutting out No. 4 Pittsburg 3-0 at Pittsburg.

As a result, Seaman will be at home Thursday for a 6 p.m. regional final against Basehor-Linwood (6-11-1).

Seaman shut out Basehor-Linwood 8-0 back on April 8.

Seevers said he feels like his Vikings can make a deep postseason run in 5A.

"If we all play together and play to our potential every game going on from here on out we could do something we've never done here on the girls side,'' Seevers said.
