A top-10 clash in Class 5A took place at Seaman High School on Friday night with the Seaman Lady Vikes, ranked No. 3 in 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association battling the visitors from Tecumseh, the 10th-ranked Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds.

The host Vikings came out focused and shot 75 percent from the field (8-12) in the first quarter, including 60 percent from the 3-point line (3-5), to take a commanding 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Seaman extended the lead to 37-19 at halftime as senior Taylin Stallbaumer led Seaman with 15 points, including three 3-pointers in the first half. The T-Birds were led in the first half by freshman KK Emmot with six points.

 

The third quarter began with Shawnee Heights creating turnovers with their defense, scoring the first four points and forcing Seaman to call a timeout with 5:39 remaining in the stanza.  The rest of the quarter saw back-and-forth scoring, with Seaman leading 51-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Seaman grew the lead beyond 30 points in the final quarter which led to a running clock for the last three minutes.

 

The Lady Vikes had three girls in double figures, led by sophomore Maddie Gragg with 19 points.

T. Stallbaumer finished with 18 points and junior Jaida Stallbaumer scored 10.  Ava Esser led the Vikings with nine rebounds.

The T-Birds were led by junior Kaydence Torrez with 12 points while senior Breezy Canady scored 8. Torrez also added six rebounds.

 

Seaman (8-0, 7-0 UKC) will have a week off before traveling to Lansing next Friday for another United Kansas Conference contest. Shawnee Heights (5-2, 5-2) will travel to Hayden next Tuesday for its only game of the week.
