Washburn University's soccer team (10-4-2 overall, 5-3-1 MIAA) scored six goals over a stretch of 50 minutes to run away with a 6-1 conference win over Newman (1-14-1, 1-8-0 MIAA) on Sunday afternoon at Yager Stadium.

Former Washburn Rural star Belle Kennedy, a 5-foot-3 freshman, scored a team-high two goals for the Ichabods, giving her six goals in her first college season.

Through the first 25 minutes neither team could get on the scoreboard although the Ichabods had a significant possession and shot advantage early on.

Washburn's first goal came in the 28th minute on a long pass from Carlee Thompson to a sprinting Kennedy, who beat the Jets' goalie to the ball and drilled it into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later Kennedy scored again with a header off of a corner kick by Haley Rogers to make it 2-0.

Just 33 seconds into the second half, Khloe Schuckman scored on a ball that was kicked around just a few yards away from the goal. Riley Wells eventually dished it to Shuckman, who scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

In the 52nd minute, Londyn Furnish drilled a kick from more than 25 yards out to score her first goal of the season and career.

The Jets got on the board in the 60th minute after a free kick. Maylani Birckbickler drilled a shot from the left side of the field into the top right corner of the net to make it 4-1.

The Ichabods continued to put pressure on Newman's defense. In the 64th minute, R. Wells took a shot toward the left side of the net which deflected off the diving goalie's hand for the fifth goal of the game. Jadyn Allen set up Wells' shot.

Sydney Achilles capped off the scoring with her first career goal in the 75th minute off an assist from Jaedyn Johnson.

Washburn ended the game with 24 total shots, tied for the most in a game this season, as well as 14 shots on goal, the Ichabods' second-highest total of the year.

Schuckman led in both categories, with six total shots taken and five on goal. Fourteen players ended with a shot attempt, the most in a game this season.

With six goals in the game, Washburn reached that mark or higher for just the eighth time in program history. Five assists on the day also tied a season-high mark.

Defensively, Washburn was able to ground the Jets, holding them to just four shots in the game with the only shot on goal being the goal. Morgan Houston led Newman with two shots in the game. Jordan Webster played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jets, coming up with eight saves.

Goalkeeper Raegan Wells also played all 90 minutes, the only Ichabod to do so. With 74 minutes, Lakin Rold played the most of any non-goalie for Washburn. Twenty-one players logged at least 15 minutes of action.

With the win, the Ichabods reach 10 wins on the season for the first time since 2017 and do so with two regular-season matchups remaining.

Washburn will play its final regular-season home game at Yager Stadium this Friday against Fort Hays State beginning at 6 p.m.
