Seaman senior Gavin Wilhelm took a three-stroke victory in Monday's Emporia Invitational golf tournament at Emporia Municipal, carding a three-over-par 74.

Monday's win was Wilhelm's first tournament victory in a high school  event.

Emporia's Brooks Sauder (77) and Nolan Jacob (78) finished second and third as the Spartans won the team title by a 323-326 margin over Washburn Rural Seaman finished third at 331.

Rural senior Maddox High and junior Bryan Terrell tied for fourth individually with 79s while Rura senior Gabe Kastner, sophomore Hayden Glynn and Seaman senior Tim Biggs tied for eighth place with 84s.

Seaman senior Taylor Tenpenny narrowly missed a top-10 finish, taking 11th with an 86.

Shawnee County teams will compete in regional tournaments next Mondday, vying for state tournament berths.

Seaman, Shawnee Heighs and Topeka West will compete in a 5A regional at Lake Shawnee while Washburn Rural and Topeka High will compete in a 6A regional at Rolling Meadows in Junction City, Hayden will take part in a 4A regional at Wamego Country Club and Rossville and Silver Lake will compete in a 3A regional at Village Greens.

Silver Lake softball took a 15-0, 15-0 non-league sweep over Oskaloosa, with Eagles pitchers Avery Wende and Kendra Cook limiting the Bears to just three hits in the doubleheader.

Wende twirled a four-inning one-hitter in the first game, striking out six batters while not issuing a walk. while Cook gave up just two hits with three strikeouts and zero walks over three innings.

Senior Taryn Burkhardt went 3 for 4 in the first game with a double, four runs batter in and three runs scored while Hailey Horton, Kaibryn Kruger, McKinley Kruger and Makenzie McDaniel also had two RBI. McDaniel also doubled for the Eagles.

McDaniel, Lauren Rollenhagen and Taylor Zordel all hit home runs in the second game while M. Kruger went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI.
