Washburn Rural continued its hot start to the 2022 softball season, going on the road to take a 4-0, 10-1 Centennial League doubleheader sweep from Manhattan.

Junior Emmerson Cope pitched a second straight shutout in the first game limiting Manhattan to three hits hits while striking out 10.

Rural scored its first run on an error in the second inning and scored its final three runs in the top of the fifth, getting runs batted in from Campbell Bagshaw, Cope and Kaci Bath.

Kierra Goos turned in a solid pitching performance in the opener, allowing only six hits and striking out 10.

Piper Titsworth picked up the second-game win, allowing one run on four hits in her seven innings of work.

Emily Louderback, Chloe Carlgren, Mikaila Herring and Kaci Bath all had two hits, with Barth picking up three RBI.

Washburn Rural will return to action against Toeka High next Tuesday at Hummer Sports Park in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Topeka West softball sweeps Junction City

Topeka West took a 22-12, 15-0 Centennial League sweep over Junction City Friday night at Hummer Sports Park.

After a slugest in the opener West's Amia Alexander-Sims threw a no-hitter in the second game and Topeka West broke the game open with a nine-run second inning.

Siani Sanchez had a double, a triple and five RBI for the Chargers in the nightcap.

Whitley Benson had a double and a triple for West while Amiya Thurman also tripled and Manaia Isaia hit a home run.

Scots pick up first baseball win

Highland Park's baseball team picked up its first victory of the season on Thursday, taking a 21-10 non-league victory over Kansas City-Washington.

The Scots scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth and added nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.

Highland Park first baseman Mackey James went 4 of 5 at the plate and also turned in a solid pitching performance as the Scots rallied for the run-rule win.

Freshman catcher Mason Foxford also went 4 of 5 for the Scots.

Highland Park will return to action Tuesday against Kansas City-Schlagle.
