For the second time in two weeks Rossville rolled to a decisive victory over Wabaunsee Friday night, posting a 47-13 home win in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

No. 4 East seed Rossville will be back at home Friday, hosting No. 5 McLouth (7-2), a 64-20 winner over Pleasanton Friday night.

Rossville, which is now 6-3 and in the midst of a six-game win streak, jumped out on top 14-0 in the first quarter Friday night over the Chargers, getting 51 and 9-yard touchdown runs from junior Conner Bush (Vincent Daniel kick).

The Bulldawgs then tacked on three more TDs in the second quarter to open up a commanding 34-6 halftime advantage. Senior quarterback Tayson scored a pair of TDs in the period on 13 and 17-yard runs while junior Andre Johnson scored from 3 yards out. Daniel kicked a pair of extra points.

Bush scored his third touchdown of the game on a 25-yard run in the third quarter and Horak finished Rossville's scoring midway through the fourth quarter with his third TD, a 27-yard run (Daniel kick).

HAYDEN 56, HIAWATHA 6 -- Hayden, which improved to 8-1,took the lead for good with a touchdown on its opening possession and scored on four of its five first-half drives on the way to a dominating 56-6 home win over Hiawatha in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Defensively, Hayden recovered two Hiawatha fumbles and picked off two passes.

Wildcat senior quarterback Jett Walmeier was 10 of 13 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown while senior Jensen Schrickel had three receptions for 41 yards and had six carries for 110 yards and two TDs.

Junior Kade Mitchell carried the ball seven times for 72 yards and two TDs while Jace Wolf had two carries for 33 yards and a TD and Conner Hanika had two receptions for 48 yards and a score.

Hayden offense rushed for 307 yards and passed for 190 yards, 180 in the first half.

Hayden, the No. 3 East seed, will be back at home Friday for a second-round playoff game against 6-3 Girard, a 43-15 winner over Kansas City-Bishop Ward on Friday.

MAIZE 37, WASHBURN RURAL 21 -- Maize, the Class 6A No. 7 West seed, knocked off No. 10 seed Washburn Rural, 37-21, Friday night at Maize in the first round of the 6A playoffs.

Washburn Rural finished its season 3-6 while Maize (5-4) advanced to a second-round matchup Friday with undefeated Manhattan (9-0), a 59-0 winner over Wichita North.

JUNCTION CITY 47, TOPEKA HIGH 14 -- Topeka High lost to Centennial League rival Junction City for the second time, with the Blue Jays advancing to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs with a 47-14 home romp.

Junction City, now 5-4, will go on the road Friday to face undefeated Derby (9-0), a 62-7 first-round winner over Campus.

SPRING HILL 48, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 14 -- Spring Hill, the No. 5 Class 5A East seed, ended Shawnee Heights' season with a 48-14 win over the No. 12-seeded T-Birds in the first round of the playoffs.

Spring Hill, now 8-1, will play at No. 4 seed Mill Valley (8-1) on Friday, with the Jaguars coming off a 77-0 win over Kansas City-Harmon.

THURSDAY'S GAME

SILVER LAKE 61, GALENA 0 -- Silver Lake, the No. 5 Class 2A East seed, rolled to a 61-0 rout over Galena Thursday night on the Eagles' home field.

The Eagles will be back at home Friday, hosting No. 13 seed Council Grove (6-3), which took a 35-14 upset win over No. 4 seed Caney Valley.
