Highland Park improved to 2-0 overall and in the Meadowlark Conference with a 42-0 road rout over Kansas City-Sumner Friday night.
Scot junior quarterback Dontrail Fox went 9 of 16 in the passing game for 112 yards and three touchdowns while Highland Park rushed for 231 yards on 37 attempts as sophomore G'honi Montgomery picked up 78 yards on 15 attemps and senior Jamon Wilson gaining 75 yards on nine carries.
Wilson caught seven passes for 76 yards and also returned a punt return for a 59-yard touchdown, one of three punt-return TDs for the Scots.
Highland Park also got an 80-yard punt return from senior CJ Brown and a 23-yard score from junior Genesis Cooper.
Senior Ricky Crawford led the Highland Park with nine tackles, including five solo stops.
Highland Park will be back on the road next Friday against Meadowlark Conference foe KC-Schlagle.
SHAWNEE MISSION EAST 35, SEAMAN 7 -- Seaman (1-1) and Shawnee Mission East (1-1) were tied at 7-7 before the Lancers took control of the non-league contest with the final 28 points of the night.
Seaman scored its lone touchdown on a touchdown pass from quarterback Max Huston to Kaden McKinney.
The Vikings will play their home opener next Friday, hosting Topeka West in a United Kansas Conference contest.
BLUE VALLEY 34, WASHBURN RURAL 7 -- Blue Valley prevailed 34-7 over Washburn Rural at Blue Valley in a battle of two schools that reached the Class 6A semifinals a year ago.
The Tigers improved to 2-0 while Washburn Rural fell to 1-1.
Blue Valley, now in 5A, never trailed after scoring the first 14 points but Washburn Rural got within 14-7 after a touchdown from junior TJ Minikwu.
Washburn Rural will be back on the road next Friday, traveling to Platte County, Mo.
ST. MARYS 24, ROSSVILLE 19 -- A fourth-quarter Rossville rally fell short Friday night as the Bulldawgs dropped a 24-19 home contest against St. Marys.
The 2-0 Bears led 24-6 at the end of the third quarter, but the 0-2 Bulldawgs got back in the game with an 8-yard pass from senior quarterback Tayson Horak to junior Jack Donovan and a 54-yard punt return from Horak.
St. Marys led 16-6 at halftime, with Rossville's lone points coming on 27 and 24-yard field goals from Vincent Daniel.
Rossville will be on the road next Friday to face two-time defending Class 2A state champion Nemaha Central.
NEMAHA CENTRAL 35, SILVER LAKE 7 -- Silver Lake fell to 1-1 with Friday's 35-7 home loss to Nemaha Central, which bounced back from its first loss since 2021 in its season-opener.
The Thunder, defending two-time Class 2A state champion, opened up a 14-0 lead before Silver Lake got on the board late in the first half on a touchdown pass from Dysen Schooler to Brody Deiter.
But that would be the Eagles' lone touchdown of the night as Nemaha Central scored the final 21 points.
Silver Lake will be on the road at Perry-Lecompton next Friday.
OSAGE CITY 54, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 20 -- Cair Paravel senior quarterback Jase Pavlik threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Ben Roeder had 13 receptions for 165 yards and two scores but the 1-1 Lions couldn't keep pace with Osage City on the road.
Junior Tobias Bonura rushed for 74 yards on 13 carries and caught six passes for 55 yards.
The Lions will play Council Grove in their home opener next Friday, with Cair Paravel playing its home games at Washburn's Yager Stadium.
