Hayden improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in Class 3A District 4 with a 27-0 Homecoming win over Perry-Lecompton Friday night.

The Wildcat defense stepped up early in the game after a Hayden turnover, stopping the Kaws on downs.

Junior Broderick Desch gave Hayden a 6-0 first-quarter lead with a 1-yard run (conversion failed), capping a 12-play, 76-yard drive.

Hayden boosted its lead to 12-0 in the second quarter when junior quarterback Jett Wahlmeier hit junior Jensen Schrickel with a 44-yard fourth-down touchdown strike (conversion failed) which capped a 10-play, 72-yard drive.

The Wildcats led 12-0 at halftime after turning the ball over deep in Perry-Lecompton territory late in the half to end a scoring threat.

Sophomore Kade Mitchell scored on a 21-yard run in the third quarter (Mason Becker kick) to put the Wildcats in front 19-0 after a four-play, 45-yard drive.

Senior Dom Ridley scored Hayden's final TD on a 10-yard run later in the third and Wahlmeier ran for the 2-point conversion to give the Wildcats their final margin. Ridley's TD finished off a five-play, 36-yard drive.

Seniors Carter Chavat and Jude Konrade had big nights for Hayden's defense while junior Brady Heinen had an interception.

Perry-Lecompton (1-4) threatened to get on the scoreboard late in the game but the Hayden defense was able to close out the shutout.

Hayden senior star Finn Dunshee left the game in the second quater with an injury.

Unofficially, Wahlmeier went nine of 21 passing for 187 yards while Mitchell had five carries for 46 yards and Desch carried the ball five times for 34 yards.

Hayden will travel to Royal Valley next Friday.

WASHBURN RURAL 28, JUNCTION CITY 7 -- Washburn is now one of just three unbeaten teams in Class 6A after a 28-7 road Centennial League win at Junction City.

The Junior Blues are now 5-0 overall and took command of the Centennial League race with their second straight league win.

Washburn Rural scored three of its four touchdowns on defense/special teams, with seniors Jaren and JC Heim leading the way.

Rural led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter on a fumble recovery in the end zone and led 14-0 at the half.

The Junior Blues took a 21-0 lead with 3:48 left in the third quarter when Jaren Heim scored a touchdown off a JC Heim blocked punt and JC Heim returned a fumble for a TD off a Packson Bettis sack for Rural's final TD.

Junction City scored its lone touchdown with 9:27 left in the game.

Washburn Rural will be home next Friday for a Centennial League game against Topeka High (1-4).

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 62, BURLINGAME 28 -- Cair Paravel Latin picked up a huge Eight-Man Division I District 2 home victory Friday night, handing Burlingame its first loss of the year in a 62-28 Lion romp.

Lion junior quarterback Jase Pavlik had a big night, having a hand in seven touchdowns as CPLS improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Pavlik was 19 of 26 passing for 273 yards and five touchdowns, carried the ball six times for 71 yards and two TDs. Pavlik also had a pass interception on defense.

Senior Jesiah Bonura carried the ball 13 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns and caught six passes for 111 yards and two TDs.

Cair Paravel will travel to Madison next Friday night.

LINCOLN PREP 57, HIGHLAND PARK 6 -- Highland Park suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 4-1, with Kansas City-Lincoln Prep, Mo. rolling to a 57-6 non-league decision over the Scots.

Lincoln Prep, which improved to 5-1, handed Highland Park its first loss of the year for the second straight season.

Highland Park will face another tough test next Thursday night, hosting Atchison at Hummer Sports Park.

DE SOTO 41, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 18 -- Perennial state power De Soto handed Shawnee Heights its second straight loss Friday night, posting a 41-18 United Kansas Conference victory.

De Soto, which improved to 4-1, led 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 20-0 at the half.

The Wildcats led 27-6 after three quarters and outscored the T-Birds 14-12 in the fourth.

Shawnee Heights, now 3-2 on the season, will be at Wetter Field next Friday to host Wamego, last season's Class 4A state runnerup.

BLAIR OAKS 63, SEAMAN 28 -- Blair Oaks, located in Jefferson City, Mo., was locked in a 21-21 tie with the Vikings before scoring 35 unanswered points to take a 63-28 home victory.

Junior quarterback Max Huston put Seaman up early with a 19-yard touchdown pass to senior Callen Barta and Huston put the Vikings in front 14-7 with a 28-yard TD strike to junior Bryer Finley.

Seaman was also tied at 21 after a 1-yard Huston TD before Blair Oaks took control.

Blair Oaks improved to 5-1 while Seaman dropped to 2-3 with its third straight loss.

The Vikings will be at home next Friday to host Leavenworth in a United Kansas Conference game.
