Silver Lake and Rossville will be well-represented in Friday's Class 3A state track meet in Wichita after combining to earn state berths in 27 events in the 3A regional at Osage City.
Silver Lake's girls placed second as a team in the Osage City regional and qualified for state in nine events while the Eagles finished third in the boys team standings and qualified in 10 events.
Rossville qualified for state in three boys events and five girls events, including three individual titles.

Silver Lake junior Brogan Renfro was the boys champion in the triple jump (41 feet) while junior Carson Johnson won the 300-meter hurdles (41.65 seconds).
Renfro also qualified for state with a second-place finish in the 200 (23.03) and a third-place finish in the 100 (11.59) while Johnson qualified in the 110 hurdles with a third-place showing (17.05).
Silver Lake's boys qualified second in all three relays, clocking a time of 8:31.91 in the 4x800, 44.36 in the 4x100 and 3:37.99 in the 4x400.

Washburn Rural finished third in both the boys and girls divisions in Friday's Class 6A track and field regional at Wichita Northwest, posting seven victories and qualifying in a total of 17 events (nine girls, eight boys) for Thursday's state meet in Wichita.

Senior Marquel Russell led the Junior Blues with a sweep of the regional titles in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles while the Rural boys also got a win from Christian Ahlf in the pole vault.

Junior distance star Tanner Newkirk led the way with three victories and Hayden's boys notched five wins overall as the Wildcats turned in a strong performance in Friday's Class 4A track and field regional at Tonganoxie.
Newkirk, a junior, swept the 1,600, 3,200 and 800-meter titles while Hayden also got wins from senior Jack Konrade in the long jump and sophomore Jake Muller in the 300 hurdles as the Wildcats finished third as a team.

With a Class 6A regional championship and state berth on the line Friday at the Bettis Family Sports Complex, Washburn Rural baseball coach Jay Mastin knew there was no need to hold anything back.
So with Junior Blue baserunners at first and third base with two outs in the bottom of the sixth in a 2-2 tie game, 17-5 Washburn Rural pulled off a rare double steal to get what proved to be the game-winning run home in a 3-2 win over Dodge City.
“That’s probably the first time I’ve run that, honestly,” Mastin said. “We had the right guys on base to do it. I expected there to be a rundown, and for there to be more to it, but we got the run home and that’s all that matters.”

The runner at first, senior Anthony Taggert, broke for second and when the Dodge City catcher bounced the throw to second, junior Keaton Catlin raced home from third, scoring without a throw.

In may take awhile for what Cair Paravel Latin's girls soccer team accomplished Friday to fully sink in.
But suffice it to say, the Lions know that their 9-0 win over Kansas City Christian at the Bettis Family Sports Complex was big.
Friday's romp gave the Lions a regional championship and a berth in next Tuesday's Class 4A-1A state quarterfinals in the school's first season as a full Kansas State High School Activities Association member.
“Honestly, I have nothing to compare it to,” Cair Paravel coach Doug Woolery said about the win. “Our girls soccer program has been pretty successful over the years, but we’ve never had the opportunity to compete at this level, so it’s really exciting for us. It probably hasn’t really set in yet.”
Cair Paravel senior Alyssa Carlson said the regional title is definitely something to be proud of.
“It’s been a joy to do things we’ve never done before and get an award that we’ve never had before,'' Carlson said.
