Washburn University's men's basketball team had seven players score at least eight points en route to an 87-72 MIAA road win over Missouri Southern Thursday night.
The Ichabods, who improved to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the MIAA, pushed their season-best win streak to three games with their fifth win over the last six games.
"This is definitely a tough place to play and it's good to get a win,'' Washburn star point guard Tyler Geiman told KTPK Radio after the game
Jeremy Harrell led the Ichabods with 13 points and added seven rebounds while Geiman recorded the 12th double-double of his career with 12 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds while also dishing out seven assists.
With his 16 rebounds, Geiman becomes the first Ichabod to record at least 600 rebounds and 600 assists in an Ichabod career.

Jalen Lewis and Jonny Clausing added 12 points apiece for Washburn.
The Ichabods, led 44-38 after a first half that included 12 lead changes and 23 points from the Washburn bench.
The Lions (8-5, 5-2 MIAA) led 22-17 before a 7-0 Washburn run at the midway point of the half put Washburn up by two points.
The Lions came back to take a 34-30 advantage with 4:45 in the opening half, but the Ichabods finished the half on a 14-4 run capped by a Michael Keegan 3-pointer that gave Washburn its six-point advantage.
The Ichabods scored the first six points of the second half to take a 12-point lead and Washburn would go on to lead by as many as 20 in the second half.
"We're getting there for sure,'' Geiman said of Washburn's recent hot streak. "Not being healthy is real tough, especially as a team, but the guys have really rallied around each other, helped everyone out, the coaches have been great and it's nice to get back healthy and get on a roll and hopefully we can keep this thing going.''
Missouri Southern was led by Christian Bundy with a game-high 18 points.
The Ichabods shot 49 percent from the field, hitting 33 of 68 shots and finished 14 of 16 from the free throw line while making their final 14 charities of the game.
Missouri Southern was held to 28 of 66 shooting, going five of 16 from 3-point range in the second half.
The Ichabods finished with a 43-35 rebounding advantage and out-scoried the Lions 50-34 in the paint.
The Ichabods committed a season-low four turnovers while forcing 13 miscues for the Lions.
The Ichabods will be in action at Pittsburg State on Saturday.

The Washburn University women's basketball team dropped its first game of the 2022 calendar year, taking a 69-50 loss at Missouri Southern Thursday night.
Washburn saw its four-game winning streak come to an end, with the Ichabods falling to 5-8 over-all and 3-4 in the MIAA, while Missouri Southern improved to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

Senior Hunter Bentley was a bright spot for the Ichabods, notching a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
With Thursday's performance Bentley moved into the No. 8 spot on Washburn's career scoring list.
The Washburn offense got off to a slow start, making just 3 of 15 shot attempts from the field while the Lions went on an 8-0 run in the final 5:07 of the first quarter to take a 15-6 lead.
Aubree Dewey ended the Ichabods' scoring drought with a pull-up jumper at the 8:34 mark in the second quarter and Macy Doebele followed that with a pair of free throws to pull within 15-10.
Missouri Southern responded with another scoring run, adding seven unanswered points in just over four minutes to extend its lead to 22-12.
Emma Chapman made a layup to score the final points of the opening half, but the Lions went into the halftime break with a 28-19 advantage.
Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter until Washburn's Nuria Barrientos made a jumper at the 7:01 mark. Doebele made a jumper midway through the quarter to cut Washburn's deficit 33-26, but Missouri Southern ended the quarter on an 11-4 run to push its lead back to double-digits at 44-30.
Washburn had its best quarter of the game in the fourth, shooting 42 percent and scoring 20 points, but the Lions also recorded their best period and put up 25 points to maintain their double-digit lead for the rest of the contest.
The Ichabods ended the night shooting 30.6 from the floor while the Lions shot 42.9 percent.
Missouri Southern went nine for 26 from 3-point range and Washburn made four of 19 from deep, with Bentley making all four treys.
The Ichabods out-rebounded the Lions by a 43-38 margin and scored 12 points after 10 offensive boards. Washburn made all eight of its free throw attempts while Missouri Southern made just half, going 12-of-24 at the charity stripe.
Shae Sanchez added eight points and six rebounds for Washburn. Doebele had eight boards and made all four of her free throws.
Four Lions finished in double-figures, led by Lacy Stokes' 18 points. Stokes also contributed 7 assists, 5 steals and 5 rebounds.
The Ichabods will close out their road trip on Saturday afternoon at Pittsburg State.

Highland Park, No. 2-ranked in Class 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, went on the road Tuesday night and handed Junction City its first loss of the season, 70-54, while No. 5-ranked Topeka West is coming off a 71-57 Centennial League road win at Emporia. Senior Juan'Tario led Highland Park with a game-high 24 points against Junction City while junior Ketraleus Aldridge added 18 points and junior Tre Richardson 10 points for the Scots. Senior Elijah Brooks scored a game-high 21 points for West against Emporia while junior Xavier Alexander added 18 points with five 3-pointers and senior Zander Putthoff added 17 points with three 3-pointers.

After having Tuesday's game against Topeka High postponed, Hayden is scheduled to be back in action in Friday's boys-only Centennial League game against the Spartans. The junior varsity game will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at approximately 6 p.m. Emporia is coming off a 71-57 league loss to Topeka West on Tuesday. Parker Leeds and River Peters both scored 20 points for the Spartans against Topeka West. Hayden's most recent game was a 70-54 loss to Topeka West last Friday, with senior Trent Duffey scoring 23 points and junior Joe Otting adding 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Friday night's game between the Wildcats and Spartans has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. Hayden has had two straight games postponed, with the Wildcats' Tuesday game against Topeka High also postponed.

Highland Park is coming off a 43-41 Centennial League loss at Junction City on Tuesday while Topeka West dropped a 55-26 league decision at Emporia. Freshman Amelia Ramsey scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Highland Park against Junction City while sophomore Victoria Reed added 11 points and freshman Mariah Parker-Brown had 10 points with three 3-pointers. Junior Jazmyn Ford led Topeka West with 10 points and sophomore Zoe Clark added seven in the Chargers' loss to Emporia.

Topeka West's wrestling team earned USD 501 bragging rights Wednesday night, sweeping district rivals Topeka High and Highland Park in a triangular at High.
All three 501 schools were hampered by illness, with the Scots, Trojans and Chargers combining for 25 open spots -- 10 for Highland Park and eight apiece for eight for West and High).
Topeka West opened the triangular with a 48-24 victory in the first match over Topeka High, with 106-pounder Dillon Jay, 113-pounder Preston Gengler and 160-pounder Fox Cook all earning victories.
The Chargers followed their first-match victory with a 42-30 win over Highland Park. Topeka West collected 36 out of its 42 points as a result of Hi Park open spots weight classes. Cook was the West winner, recording a pin in 1 minute, 03 seconds.
The Scots earned three pins against Topeka West -- 170-pounder Tanner Lassiter, 182-pounder Adrian Burney and 285-pounder Morgan Dean.
In the battle for second place, Topeka High topped Highland Park on the Trojans' Senior Night, 36-21.
High’s 106-pounder Victor Mesa, 120-pounder Kasius Jamison, 170-pounder Jaxson Johnson and 220-pounder Andrew Perez posted wins to help boost the Trojans.
“They (seniors) mean a tremendous amount to us,'' Topeka High coach Tony Canacari said. "Andrew Perez does a great job leading us in the room. Jahmari (Pleasant) does the same thing. Azaryah, Lance, and everyone else is an awesome group. I hate losing them.
"I wish they had last season to wrestle as well, but things have been better for us this year.''

In the 285-pound matchup, Highland Park’s Morgan Dean and High’s Pleasant went to three periods, with Dean taking a 3-0 win to go 2-0 on the night.
Despite the lack of numbers, Highland Park coach Freddy Maisberger was pleased just to be able to compete on Wednesday night.
“We have a lot of things to work on,'' Maisberger said. "I’m glad we had it (the match) even though we had a lot of people who were out, as far as sickness. We probably could’ve been closer, as far as some of the matches, but I’m just glad that we are wrestling.''
Canacari echoed Maisberger’s statements.
“I thought the kids went out there and wrestled hard,'' he said. "We got hit by COVID today pretty bad with the testing. We were open in a lot of weight classes. The kids that were here tonight competed hard.''
TOPEKA HIGH TRIANGULAR RESULTS
Topeka West 48, Topeka High 24; Topeka West def. Highland Park, 43-30; Topeka High def. Highland Park, 36-21.
GIRLS EXHIBITION MATCHES
With a large number of open spots, the girls competed in exhibition matches on Wednesday night.
Topeka West’s 120-pounder Aa’Zauviyah Majors and 155-pounder Dadriona Anderson were able to win by pin in both of their matches. Majors would win in 1:40 and Anderson won her match in 1:05.
Topeka High’s 109-pounder Neviah Martin won by decision while High’s 138-pounder Marilena Zuniga won in a16-second pin.
“I thought the girls we did have did a great job,'' Topeka High girls coach Roger Laubengayer-Mena said. "A lot of those matches were actually re-matches because we are 501, so we see them a lot. Someone like Marilena to go against (Highland Park) Ruby (Hernandez), who has been wrestling a long time was neat. Someone like Neviah (Martin) who is a first-year wrestler getting a pin felt good as well.''
The three 501 schools will all meet again on Saturday's Topeka High Invitational (9 a.m. start).
