Washburn Rural continued its hot start to the 2022 softball season, going on the road to take a 4-0, 10-1 Centennial League doubleheader sweep from Manhattan.
Junior Emmerson Cope pitched a second straight shutout in the first game limiting Manhattan to three hits hits while striking out 10.

Rural scored its first run on an error in the second inning and scored its final three runs in the top of the fifth, getting runs batted in from Campbell Bagshaw, Cope and Kaci Bath.
Kierra Goos turned in a solid pitching performance in the opener, allowing only six hits and striking out 10.
Piper Titsworth picked up the second-game win, allowing one run on four hits in her seven innings of work.
Emily Louderback, Chloe Carlgren, Mikaila Herring and Kaci Bath all had two hits, with Barth picking up three RBI.
Washburn Rural will return to action against Toeka High next Tuesday at Hummer Sports Park in a battle of unbeaten teams.

A no-hitter and a walk-off hit took place on the same day at Washburn Rural on Friday afternoon.
Cade Perkins threw a no-hitter for Manhattan baseball in the opening game and Washburn's Colin Redeker hit a walk-off single in Game 2.
Manhattan run-ruled Washburn Rural 10-0 in the first game and the Junior Blues won in comeback fashion in the second game, 9-8.
“I’m proud of the way our guys competed and got the win in the second game,” Washburn Rural coach Jay Mastin said. “(Redeker) and the guys played pretty well. I’m proud of the way they pulled out the victory.”
Washburn Rural’s three-run rally in the seventh inning gave the Junior Blues the chance to win the game.
Redeker’s hit was the key to Friday night’s Centennial League win.
“I got up with a couple of people on and had two outs, I just needed to get the job done and I did,” Redeker said. “It was a super important at-bat because a tie would’ve been possible. So I just got the job done when the team needed me.”

The Washburn Ichabods moved to 30-11 overall and 12-2 in the MIAA Friday with a 4-0, 6-1 doubleheader road sweep over Fort Hays State.
The Ichabods pushed their win streak to 10 straight games while former Shawnee Heights star Jaycee Ginter was the winning pitcher in the first game, improving to 20-3 on the season.

Washburn scored all four of their runs in the first-game win in the fourth inning.
Ginter started off the inning with a walk and after a walk to Ashton Friend, Autymn Schreiner singled and then Jaden LaBarge's pinch-hit single to center scored Ginter and Friend.
Maddie Stipsitsdrew a walk and then Marrit Mead singled to drive in LaBarge and Stipsits.
Ginter turned in a complete-game shutout in the opener, striking out eight while walking one and allowing four hits.
Ginter became the first Ichabod to record at least 20 wins in a single season since Lauren Thimmesch accomplished that feat in 2015. Ginter also went over the 200-strikeout mark with her 202nd against the Tigers.

The temperature was cold Friday but Seaman's bats were smokin' in the Vikings' 14-1, 12-1 Centennial League doubleheader sweep over Topeka High at Hummer Sports Park.
The Vikings lashed out 25 hits on the night, including 10 extra base hits and three home runs, en route to improving to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the league while ending both games in five innings by way of the 10-run spread rule.
"I thought we did a good job of coming out and playing,'' Seaman coach Trent Oliva said. "Our bats have been a little cold, a little inconsistent, and we were able to get those going a little bit and that always helps out when you can score some runs.
"It helps your pitching, it helps your defense to play a little bit more free and we were able to do that today.''

Senior catcher Dagen Brewer homered in both games and went 4 for 4 in the nightcap with a pair of doubles and five runs batted in, while senior Casen Stallbaumer also hit a home run in the second game.
Junior Bryson Vawter went 4 for 4 in the opener while senior Maclane Finley went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and junior Aidan Polter delivered a three-run triple and finished the game with five RBI.
In addition to the big games from Brewer and Stallbaumer in the second game, Seaman got a two-run double from sophomore Holden Finley.

Seaman also did the job on the mound against the Trojans, with Vawter and freshman Max Huston combining for a three-hitter and nine strikeouts in the first game and M. Finley twirling a five-inning three-hitter in the second game while striking out six batters.
Seaman led 4-1 through three innings in Game 1 and put the game away with seven runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.
