Traditional city baseball powers Seaman and Shawnee Heights, who have combined for 13 state titles, renewed their long rivaly Tuesday at Optimist Field, with Viking pitchers Bryson Vawter and Maclane Finley stealing the show in the Vikings' 3-1 win.
Vawter, a junior, and senior Finley combined for a no-hitter while recording 15 strikeouts as Seaman improved to 14-2 and pushed its winning streak to four games.
Vawter threw the first five innings for the Vikings, recording nine strikeouts while walking two and hitting a batter.
"I felt pretty good,'' Vawter said. "I was throwing the fastball and blowing it by them. That was what was working and then I had a little wrinkle in there and threw the curveball and it seemed to work a little bit. My main thing was just getting ahead (in the count) and when I got behind I walked them. All I had to do was throw strikes and let my defense work and they made some good plays out there.''
Shawnee Heights, which fell to 10-8, scored its lone run in the third inning, with Vawter issuing back to back walks before Braeden Brown came around to score after a pair of groundouts.
"Walks are killing me and that's my biggest problem right now,'' Vawter said.

Seaman's girls soccer team powered its way past Hayden with a 4-2 Centennial League victory on Tuesday at Hayden High.
The Vikings were all smiles after kicking in four goals and playing stellar defense down the stretch.
Seaman has scored more than three goals on two separate occasions this season, incuding Tuesday's contest.
“We knocked the ball really well today,” Seaman coach Tim Nussbaum said. “I thought we kept possession of the ball well. Our different formation switch helped us greatly today. We played one up top and then two up top, which gave us more creativity. I’d like for us to be a little more cleaner in the backdoor to clear the ball out, so we don’t give up any goals.
“Overall, I was really pleased with how the team performed today.”

Topeka High soccer extended its winning streak to five games after a 6-0 romp plast Topeka West on Tuesday night at Hummer Sports Park.
After a hard-fought battle with Shawnee Heights on Monday, Topeka High took the field again just 24 hours later and fought through the short turnaround to improve to 10-3 on the season.
“We have some tired legs, but we keep continuing to go out and do our job,” Topeka High coach Derek Snook said. “Fighting through fatigue and sore bodies has been one of this team’s biggest strengths. They keep impressing me and they are doing everything they can to win for each other.”
Continuing their recent hot streak, the Trojans dominated Tuesday's game against the USD 501 rivals.
“We really pulled through today,” Topeka High midfielder Luxanna Sands said. “We had a nice team-bonding moment in the locker room before today’s game and I think we do a good job of playing for each other.
"When that trust and bond with your teammates is good, it reflects your play on the field. We are confident, but we are also cautious. We expect the highest level of intensity every time we step out on that field. We have to match that every time.”
Topeka High was solid on both ends of the field against West, including assists on five of the Trojans' six goals.
