Becker was one of three Vikings to earn first-team honors, along with freshman Maddie Gragg and junior Taylin Stallbaumer, while Seaman coach Matt Tinsley was named the UKC coach of the year.

Also earning first-team recognition was Shawnee Heights senior Emari Doby, giving the city four of seven first-team spots.
Earning second-team berths were Shawnee Heights senior Taylor Rottinghaus and Topeka West junior Zoe Clark.
Seaman sophomore Jaida Stallbaumer received honorable mention along with Shawnee Heights junior Breezy Canady and Topeka West seniors Azaryah Duncan and Jazmyn Ford.

Nine city players have earned All-United Kansas Conference boys basketball recognition, including first-team picks Aron Davis of Seaman, Brennon Dodge of Shawnee Heights and Xavier Alexander of Topeka West.

Davis and Alexander are both seniors and Dodge a junior.
Seaman senior Kaeden Bonner, Topeka West senior Malachi Berg and Shawnee Heights sophomore Jaret Sanchez all earned second-team All-UKC honors while Shawnee Heights seniors Jeremyah Kendrick and Q Stovall and Seaman freshman KaeVon Bonner received honorable mention.
De Soto junior David Cobin was voted the UKC player of the year by league coaches while Wildcat coach Matt Rice was named the coach of the year.
Washburn signee Tyson Ruud of Basehor-Linwood was named to the All-UKC first team.

Washburn Rural sophomore bowler Logan Glinka and Seaman junior bowler JaeLinn Thetford have been selected by the Dan Key Farmers Insurance Agency as the Rising Stars of the Week.
The Dan Key Agency will recognize top Shawnee County underclassmen throughout the bulk of the 2022-2023 school year.
Here’s a brief look at the accomplishments of Glinka and Thetford over the past week:

LOGAN GLINKA, Washburn Rural
Glinka placed seventh individually in his first Class 6A state bowling tournament last Friday at Wichita's Northrock Lanes with a 696 series while helping Washburn Rural capture the state team title by a 135-pin margin over Olathe Northwest
Glinka bowled games of 205, 254 and 237 as the Junior Blues built a precarious 11-pin advantage through the three American Ten-Pin games and then buried the field in the four Baker format games.
Rural's winning 3,711 pin total was the most ever scored by a 6A team in the state tournament.

JAELINN THETFORD, Seaman
After narrowly missing a state medal as a sophomore, Thetford bowled a 624 series to finish third individually last Thursday in the Class 5A-1A state tournament at Northrock Lanes in Wichita to help Seaman earn the third-place team trophy.
Great Bend claimed the team title by a 3,161-3,078 margin over Salina South, with Seaman third at 3,007, 109 pins in front of fourth-place Buhler for the final team trophy.
Thetford's performance in this year's state tournament came after she finished 22nd in the 2022 state meet for the state-champion Vikings.

Washburn Rural's girls basketball team held its Senior Night festivities a while back, but the Junior Blues' three upperclassmen took center stage again Thursday at Koch Arena, leading No. 5 seed Rural to a 58-49 first-round victory over No. 4 Lawrence in the Class 6A state tournament.

MaRyah Lutz paced the 17-5 Junior Blues with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, while Chloe Carlgren added 14 points and Brooklyn DeLeye scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Sophomore Kate Hinck joined her three Rural teammates in double figures for the Junior Blues, scoring 10 points.

EMPORIA -- Undefeated and top seed Highland Park didn't play its best basketball in the first half of Thursday's Class 5A boys first-round game, holding a somewhat precarious five-point advantage over No. 8 seed Basehor-Linwood
But coach Mike Williams said there was no panic or consternation in the Scots' locker room at the break, just a message of patience and encouragement.

And coming out of the locker room, the Scots flashed the form that has led to 23 straight victories, with Highland Park building a 15-point lead at the end of the third quarter and leading by as many as 19 in the fourth on the way to a 60-49 victory at White Auditorium.
"I thought we did a good job of just staying poised,'' Williams said. "The game ain't over the first quarter, it's not over the second quarter. Our guys came into the locker room, nobody was panicking, nobody was pointing fingers at anybody.
"We were just trying to figure it out and I thought they did a good job of that as we went through the second half.''
