For the first time since 2006 Washburn University soccer is heading to the NCAA Tournament and is the No. 1 seed in the Central Region.

The Ichabods' second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament will start with a 6 p.m. first-round game on Friday against No. 8 Ouachita Baptist at Yager Stadium.
The Ichabods enter the national tournament 16-3-1 overall and captured the MIAA regular-season championship.
This is the first time in program history that Washburn is serving as a host for NCAA postseason play.

Seaman junior quarterback Max Huston was named the 2023 All-United Kansas Conference offensive player of the year while Viking coach Jared Swafford was selected as the UKC coach of the year after Seaman posted a 6-5 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs.

In addition to being named the UKC offensive player of the year, Huston was selected by league coaches as the All-UKC quarterback and was joined on the first team by Seman senior receiver Callen Barta while Shawnee Heights senior Rykan Carver was named to the first-team offensive line.
Barta was also named to the All-UKC first-team defense at defensive back while Seaman junior Kaden Jordan and Shawnee Heights senior Christian Gonzales were named to the first-team defense as defensive linemen.
Shawnee Heights, which posted an 8-3 record on the year, is represented on the second-team offense by senior quarterback Ryeki Tuley, senior running back Allen Baughman, senior wide receiver Jacob Malcom and senior lineman Alex McHardie while Seaman put sophomore tight end Noah Kubuszewski and junior offensive lineman Andrew Broughton on the second-team offense..
Topeka West senior Josh Nitschke was named to the second team as the all-purpose pick.
Shawnee Heights junior defensive lineman Alex Dawkins and senior linebackers Alex Dittman and Tucker Busenitz and senior defensive back Jordan Armbruster were named to the All-UKC second-team defense along with Topeka West senior defensive lineman Kyrece Robinson and Seaman junior linebacker Hayden Cummings.
Seaman junior Ethan Geiger was selected as the All-UKC second-team kicker.

League champion Washburn Rural dominated voting for the All-Centennial League volleyball team, putting three players on the first team and sweeping the individual honors.

Rural senior Jada Ingram was named the Centennial League player of the year after helping lead the Junior Blues to a Class 6A state tournament berth while junior Kate Hinck was named the newcomer of the year and Kevin Bordewick the coach of the year.
Ingram was a three-time All-Shawnee County pick and earned All-6A State Tournament honors the past two seasons.
Ingram ended her prep career with 1,188 kills, which ranks No. 5 on Washburn Rural's all-time list. Ingram finished her senior season with 578 kills on .272 hitting efficiency while registering 15 block kills, serving 91.5 percent with 29 aces and finishing with 232 digs.
Ingram and Hinck were joined on the all-league first team by senior Zoe Canfield while Hayden put seniors Avery Grunert and Hannah Schmitz on the first team.
Topeka High put junior JoMhara Benning and freshman Campbell Dawson on the second team while Hayden junior Bella Reid and sohomore Ella Foster and Washburn Rural senior Ava Bruno also earned second-team recognition.

Hayden Catholic High School will induct six new members into its Hall of Fame during a Dec. 2 dinner and induction ceremony at Hayden.
The Hayden Hall of Fame recognizes individuals in four categories -- alumni achievement, student athletic/activity achievement, staff achievement and contributor. Hayden Catholic High School and the Hayden High School Foundation serve as the sponsoring organizations of the Hall of Fame.

Nominations for the 2023 class were accepted from the public at large from last December through July.
Former Wildcat standout and legendary Hayden football coach Tom Stringer will be inducted into the Hayden Hall of Fame for alumni achievent, along with the late Kevin Sloan, a former state track and field champion and state record-holder in the long jump.
Hayden basketball legend Tom Meier will be an inductee for student athletic/activity achievement while Mary Beth McCarthy and the late George Silovsky will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for staff achievement and the late Judy (McGivern) Row will be inducted for contributor achievement.

Four Washburn University football players received recognition on the All-MIAA team released Tuesday by the MIAA after a vote of the league's coaches.

Senior offensive lineman Andrew Funk and freshman return specialist D.J. Bell were second-team All-MIAA selections and Bell repeated as an honorable mention selection as a wide receiver along with defensive linemen Chase McCoy and Patrick Altenor.
Funk helped the Ichabods average 348 yards of total offense per game this season. He started 43 games on the offensive line as an Ichabod and has been a three-time All-MIAA selection, earning first-team honors last season.
Bell led the Ichabods in all-purpose yards averaging 120.3 per game and averaged 23.1 yards per kickoff return on 24 attempts including a 100-yard return against Missouri Southern in the home opener en route to second-team return specialist honors.
Bell was also an honorable mention selection as a wide receiver. The true freshman led the Ichabods in receiving yards with 44 catches and 563 yards adding five touchdowns and while averaging 12.8 yards per catch and 51.2 yards per game.
Altenor led the Ichabods in tackles this season with 52 including 25 solo stops. His 8.0 tackles for loss were a team-high and he added three sacks as well as a forced fumble.
McCoy, a fellow defensive lineman, had 21 tackles with six solo stops adding five tackles for loss for 29 yards and 3.5 sacks for 25 yards with a fumble recovery.
