Washburn Rural improved to 2-0 on the season Friday night with a 28-14 non-league decision over De Soto at Bowen-Glaze Stadium.

The Junior Blues and Wildcats were knotted at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter before Rural opened up a 21-7 advantage at the half while taking advantage of two De Soto turnovers.

De Soto cut its deficit to 21-14 early in the fourth quarter before Washburn Rural added an insurance TD.

Junior Lafayette Thompson scored a pair of touchdowns for the Junior Blues while sophomore TJ Minikwu and senior JC Heim also scored TD's for Washburn Rural.

Junior Wilson Miller had a pass interception that set up Minikwu's TD that put the Junior Blues ahead to stay.

Washburn Rural will be on the road for the first time next Friday, traveling to Piper.

SEAMAN 59, KC-TURNER 6 -- Seaman posted its second straight lopsided United Kansas Conference decision, rolling to a 59-6 home win behind junior quarterback Max Huston.

Huston threw for seven touchdowns on the night for the Vikings, who have outscored their first two opponents by a 135-12 margin.

Huston hit sophomore Noah Kobuszewski for a 15-yard TD pass to open the scoring at the 8:19 mark of the first quarter and senior Jack Bloom ran for a 5-yard score to put Seaman in front 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Huston and senior Callen Barta hooked up for a 5-yard TD pass on the first play of the second quarter and Huston hit Barta again for a 79-yard touchdown to put the Vikings in command 26-0 at the 8:03 mark of the second period.

Bloom scored on a 1-yard plunge and Huston connected with Holden Finley for a 20-yard TD pass to put Seaman up 33-0 at the half.

Huston hit Barta for a 67-yard TD pass on the first play of the second half and Huston connected with Holden Finley for a 30-yard TD and Bryer Finley for a 43-yard score to end Seaman's 59-point scorefest.

Turner scored its one touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Seaman will face 2-0 Shawnee Heights in a UKC clash next Friday at Heights.  

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 26, LANSING 25 -- Shawnee Heights came out on top in a road nail-biter, improving to 2-0 overall and in the United Kansas Conference with a 26-25 win over Lansing.

Senior quarterback Ryeki Tuley threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns on a 24 of 37 performance and also ran for a TD.

Jayden Holly caught 10 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown while Jayden Moore had five grabs for 53 yards, Jordan Armbruster four catches for 120 yards and a TD  and Jacob Malcom four catches for 77 yards.

Tucker Busenitz was in on 11 tackles, including nine solos, while Alex Dawkins was in on 9.5 stops, including three for loss.   

The T-Birds led 23-19 at the half.

Shawnee Heights will be back at home on Friday to face 2-0 Seaman in a UKC tilt.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 60, DONIPHAN WEST 12 -- Cair Paravel Latin picked up its first win of the season Friday night and it only took a half, with the Lions rolling to a 60-12 rout over Doniphan West in a game played at Highland Park.

The game ended at halftime as a result of the 45-point spread rule.

Cair Paravel, 1-1, will be on the road Friday at Marais des Cygnes Valley.

RILEY COUNTY 26, ROSSVILLE 20 --  Riley County scored the game-winning touchdown with three and a half minutes left to pull out a 26-20 MId-East-League road win at Rossville.

Riley County (1-1, 1-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead with touchdowns at the 7:38 mark of the first quarter and on the first play of the second quarter before Rossville (1-1, 1-1) got on the scoreboard with a 6-yard touchdown pass from senior Camden Horak to junior Seth Catron, cutting its deficit to 12-7.

Riley scored on the final play of the half and converted a 2-point conversion to take a 20-7 advantage to the locker room.

Rossville got a 2-yard rushing TD from Horak early in the third quarter (Paxton Willett kick) to get within six at 20-14 and Horak connected with K Badura for a 21-yard TD with 7:31 left to play. The Bulldawgs missed the extra point, leaving the game tied at 20-20.

Riley County broke the tie with a game-winning 45-yard TD pass with 3:29 remaining (conversion failed).

Rossville will host 2-0 Hayden next Friday.

 LEAVENWORTH 48, TOPEKA WEST 6 -- Topeka West fell to 0-2 overall and in the United Kansas Conference with a 48-6 loss at Leavenworth.

Leavenworth improved to 2-0, 2-0 on the season.

Topeka West will host De Soto in a UKC contest Friday night at Hummer Sports Park.
