Shawnee Heights and Seaman will be well-represented in next Thursday's Class 5A state track and field championship at Wichita, combining to qualify for state in 29 of 36 events.

Shawnee Heights qualified in nine boys events in the Mill Valley regional, including a pair of victories from sophomore Jeremiah Smith and a win senior Aidan Hicks, while Seaman advanced in five events, led by a win from senior Cadin Worcester.

Sophomore Bethany Druse was a double regional champion for Seaman's girls, who qualified for state in nine events, while Heights' girls qualified in six events, getting a win from sophomore Taylor Rottinghaus.

Smith, who had been sidelined with an injury, returned to action with wins in the boys 100-meter dash (10.90 seconds) and the 110-meter hurdles (14.92) and added a runner-up finish in the 200 (22.08) while Hicks won the javelin title with a throw of 180 feet, 8 inches.

Seaman's lone win came from Worcester, who cleared 6-4 to win the high jump crown.

Druse continued her season-long success in the 1,600 and 800 meters, winning the 1,600 in 5:24.17 and the 800 in 2:23.02 to lead the Vikings to a third-place team finish, while Rottinghaus posted a win for Heights in the 400 in 57.64 and also qualified in the 200 with a fourth-place finish (26.36).

Heights senior Shelby Butterfield, who is coming off an injury, qualified for state in three individual events, taking second in the long jump (17-5.75) and third in the 300 hurdles (47.30) and the javelin (118-7).

Butterfield and Rottinghaus also teamed with Molly Busenitz and Haley Haltom for a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay (4:12.03). 

The T-Birds also got state qualifying berths from Nadia Emperley, second in the girls javelin (118-10); Kory Sutton, fourth in the boys 1,600 (4:31.80); Jackson Esquibel, third in the boys 3,200 (9:55.62), Jacob Myers, fourth in the boys pole vault (12-0), and Matt Etzel, fourth in the boys shot put (47-2.5) and fourth in the discus (119-2).

In addition to his win in the high jump, Worcester teamed with Cade Rothenberger, Trey Ramirez and Adonis VanLeeuwen for a third-place finish in the boys 4x100 relay (43.67). Other Seaman boys qualifiers included Rothenberger, fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.10); Carson Bush, third in the triple jump (41-7.5), and the 4x800 relay team of Branen Moore, Jace Moore, Titan Cina and Landon Stuke, who took fourth in 8:32.38.

Seaman freshman Taylin Stallbaumer qualified for state in the girls 100-meter and 300 hurdles, taking second in the 100s (16.21) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.34).

Also qualifying for Seaman's girls were Gabby Grace, fourth in the 800 (2:31.31); Megan Allacher, third in the 3,200 (12:28.30), Lauren Stuewe, second in the high jump (4-8), and JahnAsia Anderson, second in the shot put (36-0.5) and fourth in the discus (98-10).

Druse, Stallbaumer, Grace and Karsyn Russell also teamed up for a fourth-plate qualifying berth in the 4x400 relay (4:17.90).
