Hayden senior Alex Sherer went a perfect 6-0 on the day to win the singles championship in Monday's 10-school Topeka West Invitational tennis tournament at Kossover Tennis Center, capping his perfect day with an 8-5 win over Caleb Bartels of Kansas City Christian in the title match.
Sherer, in his first year of high school tennis, is competing during the regular season for Hayden in a co-op with Rossville but will compete for the Bulldawgs in the postseason.
Topeka West sophomore twin brothers Ian Cusick and Miles Cusick advanced to the doubles championship match with five straight victories before dropping an 8-3 decision to Kansas City Christian in the finals.
Washburn Rural senior Aryamann Zutshi finished third in singles with an 8-5 win over Topeka West sophomore Carter Cool while Rural sophomore Kiefer Von Lintel was fifth with an 8-3 win over Lawrence's Diego Klish.
Hayden junior Michael Sandstrom and sophomore Gus Glotzbach finished sixth in doubles, dropping an 8-4 decision in the fifth-place match.
Kansas City Christian won the team title by a point over Washburn Rural (72-71) while Topeka West was third with 64 points. Hayden placed fifth as a team with 51 points while Shawnee Heights was ninth with 28 points.
