After back-to-back five-point losses, Topeka West's girls basketball team got over the hump in a big way Friday night, rolling to a 49-11 United Kansas Conference victory over Kansas City Turner at West.

Topeka West, which improved to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the UKC, scored 15 points in the first quarter, which surpassed the winless Bears' point total for the game.
Senior Jazmyn Ford led Topeka West with a game-high 14 points while junior Zoe Clark added 10 points with a pair of 3-pointers and senior Azaryah Duncan had eight points.

TOPEKA WEST BOYS 89, KC-TURNER 43 -- Topeka West rolled to its fifth straight victory, riding a 34-point first quarter to an 89-43 home United Kansas Conference victory.
Topeka West, ranked No. 8 in Class 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, posted its third straight win, following up a UKC win at Lansing on Tuesday and a four-point non-league win at Junction City on Thursday.
The Chargers, now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the UKC, opening up a commanding 34-10 lead at the end of the opening quarter and led 53-20 at halftime and 75-26 at the start of the fourth quarter, forcing a running clock the rest of the way.
Senior Xavier Alexander scored a game-high 19 points to pace four double-figure scorers for Topeka West, which also got 15 points from senior Malachi Berg, 14 from senior Sincere Austin and 10 from senior Jacob Reimer.
Eleven Chargers cracked the scoring column for West.
ROSSVILLE BOYS 44, KANSAS CITY CHRISTIAN 37 -- After suffering a heartbreaking one-point loss at Chapman in their previous game, Rossville's boys gave Brandon McDonnell his first win as the Bulldawgs' head coach with a 44-37 come-from-behind win over Kansas City Christian.
Rossville, now 1-4, trailed 7-5 at the end of the first quarter, 19-16 at the half and 31-29 at the start of the fourth quarter before outscoring KCC 15-6 over the final eight minutes.
Sophomore Tayson Horak and freshman Jack Donovan both scored 11 points for Rossville, with both players canning three 3-pointers on the night.
Senior Kade Perine was right behind with nine points for the Bulldawgs.
ROSSVILLE GIRLS 63, KANSAS CITY CHRISTIAN 12 -- The undefeated Bulldawgs were unchallenged after outscoring Kansas City Christian 31-2 in the first quarter.
Rossville, ranked No. 10 in the Class 3A state rankings by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Asssociation, went on to lead 46-8 at halftime and 60-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, with a running clock used the remainder of the game.
The Bulldawgs, who improved to 5-0, had four players crack double figures, led by freshman Rylee Dick with 18 points.
Junior Emma Mitchell added 15 points, junior Kinsey Perine 11 and junior Katie Spielman 10 points.
KC Christian (1-4) had three players score in the game.

HAYDEN GIRLS 71, KC-BISHOP WARD 14 -- Hayden rolled to its third win in four starts on the season, taking a 71-14 home non-conference win over Kansas City-Bishop Ward.
Junior Avery Grunert came off the bench to lead Hayden with 17 points while junior Lauren Sandstrom added 16 points, sophomore Brylee Meier 13 points and junior Reagan Huscher 11 for the Wildcats.
Hayden hit six 3-pointers on the night on offense and forced 34 turnovers by 1-4 Bishop Ward.

HAYDEN BOYS 73, KC-BISHOP WARD 62 -- Senior Joe Otting led the way with a game-high 24 points as Hayden prevailed 73-62 in a battle of state-ranked teams.
Hayden began the week ranked No. 3 in Class 4A while Kansas City-Bishop Ward is No. 10-ranked in 3A.
Otting scored 10 points in the third quarter after the Cyclones had trimmed a 12-point deficit to 32-30.
The two teams combined for 16 3-pointers on the night.
Jeremyah Greer had 23 points and Immanuel Campbell 22 for Ward.

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS GIRLS 48, LEAVENWORTH 36 -- Shawnee Heights improved to 4-1 overall and in the United Kansas Conference with its fourth straight win.
The T-Birds had a balanced attack against the Pioneers (0-5, 0-2) with senior Taylor Rottinghaus continuing her hot streak wtih 17 points to lead the way for Shawnee Heights.
Senior Emari Doby recorded a double-double for the T-Birds with 13 points and 13 rebounds while senior Riley Showalter came up with six key points.

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS BOYS 61, LEAVENWORTH 40 -- After falling behind 8-0 to start the game, Shawnee Heights dominated the rest of the way, posting a 61-40 United Kansas Conference victory at Leavenworth.
The T-Birds and Pioneers were tied at 13 after the first quarter and Heights outscored Leavenworth 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 31-22 advantage and held a 30-18 scoring edge in the second half.
Sophomore Jaret Sanchez led the Birds (3-2, 3-2) with 22 points while junior Brennon Dodge added 17 points and senior Jeremyah Kendrick eight.

HIGHLAND PARK GIRLS 53, KC-WYANDOTTE 25 -- Highland Park improved to 2-1 on the season with its second straight win and made a big splash in its Meadowlark Conference debut, rolling to a 53-25 win at Kansas City-Wyandotte.
Sophomore Amelia Ramsey had another monster performance for the Scots, recording 22 points, 21 rebounds and 5 blocked shots for the Scots.
Highland Park also got 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals from sophomore Tahtionna Broils and 9 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 6 assists from junior Angelique Gown-Britt.
