Silver Lake's girls and boys basketball teams took a pair of rivalry wins over Rossville Friday night at Silver Lake, with the Eagle girls taking a 76-61 Mid-East League victory over the Bulldawgs and the Lake boys avenging an earlier loss to Rossville with a 58-41 win.

Junior Makenzie McDaniel powered No. 3-ranked Silver Lake with a 29-point performance Friday, including 20 points in the second half, as the Eagles improved to 16-1 overall and 7-1 in the league.
Silver Lake opened up a 22-8 lead at the end of the opening quarter, which proved to be the difference, as the Eagles outscored the Bulldawgs by just a 54-53 margin over the final three quarters.
Kaibryn Kruger and McKinley Kruger scored 12 points each to join McDaniel in double figures.
Rossville (12-5, 4-4) got 18 points from freshman Rylee Dick while juniors Emma Mitchell and Kinsey Perine added 14 points apiece for the Bulldawgs.
Silver Lake's boys bounced back from a seven-point loss to the Bulldawgs earlier in the season with Friday's 17-point win.
Friday's game was still tight at the end of the start of the fourth quarter, with Silver Lake holding a 43-36 advantage, before the Eagles closed with a 15-5 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.
Freshman Dayne Johnson paced Silver Lake (5-12, 4-4) with a game-high 16 points while senior Troy Heiman added 14 points and junior Elijah Lopez 13 points.
Rossville (6-11, 2-5) got 14 points from sophomore Tayson Horak, who canned four 3-pointers on the night.
EMPORIA GIRLS 37, TOPEKA HIGH 31 -- The No. 6-ranked (Class 5A) Emporia girls rallied down the stretch to take a 37-31 home Centennial League victory over No. 4 (6A) Topeka High.
Emporia improved to 14-3 overall and 5-2 in the league while Topeka High fell to 13-4, 4-3.
Emporia led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter but Topeka High led 17-15 at the half and 25-23 at the start of the fourth quarter before the Spartans outscored the Trojans 14-6 over the final eight minutes.
Senior Kiki Smith scored 15 points to lead Topeka High with a game-high 15 points while senior Rebecca Snyder led Emporia with 13 points.
EMPORIA BOYS 67, TOPEKA HIGH 51 -- Sophomore River Peters scored 21 points as Emporia claimed the Dean Smith Trophy with a 67-51 home Centennial League victory over Topeka High Friday night.
The Trojans (3-14, 0-7) were within four points at the end of the opening quarter (14-10) but the Spartans (12-5, 5-2) took control by double-digits at the end of the third quarter (48-35).
HIGHLAND PARK BOYS 87, KANSAS CITY-CENTRAL, MO. 73 -- Highland Park had one of its closest games of the season Friday night on the road, but the Scots still posted a double-digit win, taking an 87-73 non-league decision over Kansas City Central, Mo.
Highland Park, which is top-ranked in Class 5A, improved to 15-0 on the season.
CAIR PARAVEL LATIN GIRLS 56, BISHOP SEABURY 9 -- Nine players scored four or more points as Cair Paravel Latin improved to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in the Kaw Valley Conference with a 56-9 romp past Bishop Seabury Friday night.
The Lions opened up a commanding 32-2 first quarter and shut out Seabury 12-0 in the second quarter to lead 44-2 at halftime.
Freshman KellAnn Chada paced the Lions with 12 points while junior Abby Kuder added eight points.
D. Nelson scored all nine points for Bishop Seabury.
BISHOP SEABURY BOYS 70, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 50 -- Bishop Seabury used a 20-5 second quarter to go in front 34-17 at the half and cruised the rest of the way to take a 70-50 Kaw Valley Conference decision over Cair Paravel Latin Friday night.
Cair Paravel, which fell to 7-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference, trailed by just a 14-12 count at the end of the first quarter before Seabury (5-8, 3-3) rode its big second quarter to the win.
Junior Ty Gossard scored 11 points to lead Cair Paravel while junior Simon Everhart added nine points and sophomore Jase Pavlik eight.
Sophomore Chas Hanover led Bishop Seabury with 17 points to pace three players in double figures. Five Seabury players scored at least nine points.
