A junior former state medalist and Centennial League champion, Deeter captured her first city individual girls golf championship last Monday at Western Hills, shooting an even-par 70 to win the city title by a five-stroke margin over Washburn Rural's Kaitlyn Crough, a former city champ.
JARIN SANDERS, Shawnee Heights
Sanders, a senior running back, had a career night last Friday as Shawnee Heights picked up its first football victory of the season, a 54-6 romp past Kansas City-Schlagle. Sanders carried the ball 15 times for 178 yards and scored five touchdowns as the T-Birds improved to 1-3.
MITCH SCHURIG, Washburn University
A senior quarterback, Schurig completed 24 of 30 pass attempts for 388 yards and five touchdowns last Saturday at Yager Stadium as the Ichabods outlasted Missouri Western 47-41 to improve to 3-1 on the season in the MIAA and overall.
LAUREN SWEENEY, Seaman
A junior, Sweeney teamed with senior Grace Unruh to win a second straight No. 1 doubles title in last Thursday's city girls tennis tournament. Sweeney and Unruh, who swept city, Centennial League and regional titles before finishing fourth in Class 5A in 2020, took an 8-3 win in the finals over Washburn Rural's Meredith Kucera and Kate Fritz.
GRACE UNRUH, Seaman
Unruh, a senior, won her third straight city tennis title in No. 1 doubles and her second straight with Sweeney in last Thursday's city tournament, taking an 8-3 win over Washburn Rural's Kucera and Fritz. Unruh teamed with Sweeney to sweep city, Centennial League and regional titles as a junior before finishing fourth in Class 5A.
AINZLEY ZULUETA, Hayden
Competing in her first city girls tennis tournament as a freshman, Zulueta made an impressive debut last Thursday, capturing the city championship in No. 1 singles. Zulueta claimed the title with an impressive 8-1 win in the championship match over two-time city champ Sheriden Wichman of Washburn Rural.
