A junior, Jeffries posted a pair of dominating wins in last Thursday's Centennial League girls swimming championships, winning the 200-yard freetyle in 1 minutes, 54.18 seconds and the 500 free in 5:02.60, posting a career-best time in the 500. Jeffries, the 2019 state champion in both events, will compete in the Class 5A-1A state meet on Saturday at the Capitol Federal Natatorium.

MICHAEL SANDSTROM and GUS GLOTZBACH, Hayden

Sandstrom, a junior, and sophomore Glotzbach posted a second-place Class 4A state doubles finish last Saturday at the Kossover Tennis Center, finishing off a 27-10 season. Sandstrom, a two-time state placer, and Glotzbach, who was competing in his first state tournament, made it to the finals with a marathon 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 semifinal win over Circle before dropping a 6-2, 6-3 decision to McPherson seniors Brennan Gipson and Conner Glazner in the championship match.

VIRGI SCARDANZAN, Washburn University

A junior pole-vaulter from Preganziol, Italy, Scardanzan topped her own Washburn school record and recorded the best mark in NCAA Division II this season with an NCAA automatic qualifying vault of 14 feet, 3.25 inches (4.35 meters) in the Loper Twilight Qualifier at Kearney, Neb. Scardanzan broke her own school record of 13-11.25 (4.25) set at the MIAA Outdoor Championships.

 ALEX SHERER, Rossville

Sherer, a senior, capped his only season of high school tennis with the Class 3A-1A state singles championship Saturday night at Wichita, the first tennis title in Rossville school history. Sherer, 36-2 on the season, went 4-0 in the state tournament, finishing off his title run with a 6-7 (8-10), 7-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Wichita Collegiate's Nick Grabon in the final.

ZSAMAR SIPPLE, Washburn Rural

Sipple, a junior, swept the Centennial League long and triple jump championships last Thursday at Washburn Rural with career-best performances in both events. Sipple won the long jump with a best of 22 feet, 4.5 inches and followed that up with a huge improvement in the triple jump, winning the event by an inch at 46-1.

TAYLIN STALLBAUMER, Seaman

Stallbaumer continued her oustanding freshman track and field season with a sweep of the 100-meter and 300-meter girls hurdles events in last Thursday's Centennial League meet. Stallbaumer won the 100 highs in 16.46 seconds and followed that up with a win in the 300s in 49.79.
