KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Piper swept both team titles in Thursday's United Kansas Conference track and field championships while Seaman senior Brody Anderson swept all three of his individual events to pace the city contingent.
Piper's girls won seven total events while the Pirate boys posted five total wins in windy conditions at Turner.

Anderson, who had set a city meet record in the 800 meters in his previous meet, swept the titles in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 in his final United Kansas Conference meet.
In his first race of the day, the 1,600, Anderson ran a comfortable 4 minute, 30.93-second winning time.
“Played it how coach (Luke) Wiens and I drew it up in our heads,'' Anderson said of his game plan. "We came into it to do enough to win, be conservative, let others lead and then finish with the win.”
A near catastrophe occurred in the final 100 meters when Anderson encountered an athlete attempting to cross the track and they made contact.
“Someone walked out in front of me and I hesitated for a second,'' he said. "Do I just run through (them) or bounce off, but we ended up with light contact.”
The second race was the 800 meters where Brody won in a personal-best time of 1:53.34. The 800 was the most competitive of his three UKC races as four runners finished under the two-minute mark in the race.
“I expected this one to have the most competition,'' Anderson said. "I went out really smooth, felt good and closed. Coach Wiens and I had talked about if there was one race to hammer, hammer that one hard.”
Anderson's final victory came in the 3,200 meters in the second-to-last race of the meet. There was a longer break leading into the race, so he took some time for some in-meet nourishment.
“I ate and drank a little bit before the race, so my stomach was a bit heavy at the start of the race. Coach and I decided to sit on the hip of the leader (Basehor-Linwood’s Cole Hubbard) until there was 800 meters to go,'' Anderson said. "I took off and separated with about 600 meters left and felt good enough to seal the deal. I felt like it was a successful night overall.”
Next Friday Seaman and Topeka West will compete in a Class 5A regional at Hummer Sports Park, with the field events getting under way at 1 p.m. and the prelims beginning at 3. Shawnee Heights will travel to De Soto for its regional, with the field events starting at 2:30 and the prelims getting under way at 3:30.
