“It was good to get back on the pitch,'' Seaman coach Kyle Seevers said. "We got rid of some of the horror from Friday (a 5-3 loss at Hayden) in that second half. We got that all out of our system, worked hard, came out tonight and got the win.
"We've got another big game on Thursday against (Washburn) Rural, which is always fun. Hopefully we build off that and look forward to the postseason. In my mind, I think this team can compete for (Class) 5A state and we’ll see what happens.”
Seaman began the scoring within the first 12 seconds of the match on a goal from senior Ava Golightley and the rout was on.
Five minutes later, senior Savannah Nelson scored deep in the box, beating the goalkeeper. Eight minutes later, senior Maya Martin scored from way beyond the box, over the goalkeeper’s head to make it 3-nil Vikings.
Senior Julia Molleker would convert on a penalty kick off a hand ball from Leavenworth at 17:55. That wasn’t all in the first half, as senior Ava Huston scored at 12:05 and then Molleker scored again off a rebound inside the box with 10:46 left in the half to make it 6-0 going into halftime.
Then in the second half, senior Parker Ayers scored on a free kick from near the logo of the pitch at 35:13 and then the Vikings would mercy rule Leavenworth a minute later as Nelson put the finishing touch on the match with her second goal.
Seevers said the team was sad after the Hayden loss but that they talked about some things they could improve on to air out that frustration. After that, they went right back to practice to correct those mistakes.
“I think that helped just everyone getting their say and getting that frustration out and it was good to do that,” Seevers said.
