Washburn Rural boys golf punched its ticket for the Class 6A state tourmament with a third-place finish in Tuesday's regional tournament at Manhattan Country Club.

Led by Higgins Hawks and Keaton Stoner, who shot team-low 78s to tie for 10th place individually, the Junior Blues posted a team score of 316 to earn the final 6A state berth by four strokes over Shawnee Mission Northwest.

Rural's Wyatt Dean tied for 14th with a 79 while Camden Ismert tied for 15th with an 81, Michael Wilson tied for 21st with an 83 and Peyton Goehring tied for 23rd with an 84.

Centennial League champion Manhattan captured the regional team title by a single stroke over Mill Valley (296-297) while Mill Valley's Eli Platz shot a 70 to take medalist honors by two strokes over Manhattan's Charlie Haney and Mill Valley's Liam Dolan.

The 6A state tournament will be contested next Tuesday and Wednesday at Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta.

Wildcats' Bean a 4A state qualifier

Hayden's Austin Bean earned an individual berth for next week's Class 4A state golf tournament at Hesston while the Wildcats tied for sixth as a team in Tuesday's 4A regional at Atchison Golf Club at Bellevue.

Bean shot an 87 to tie for 16th place and advance to next Tuesday and Wednesday's state event.

The Wildcats posted a team score of 363 to tie for sixth while Wamego won the regioanal team title by a 313-327 margin over Bishop Miege.

Wamego's Regan Kueker shot a 75 to take individual medalist honors.
