Defending Class 3A volleyball state champion Silver Lake opened its 2026 season with a second straight Salina South tournament title Saturday, winning five straight matches to run its winning streak to 42 matches dating back to last season.

Senior setter Kylie Hanni was named the tournament most valuable player while senior libero Jaylie Whitehead was named the most outstanding defensive player and junior outside hitter Karys Deiter was named to the all-tournament team.

Silver Lake opened the tournament with a 25-13, 25-15 win over Wamego, took a 17-25, 25-18, 25-10 win over Chapman, a 25-19, 25-10 victory over Minneapolis, a 25-12, 23-25, 25-19 win over Salina South and a 25-10, 25-11 win over Salina Sacred Heart.

Bulldawgs' Perine surpasses 1,000-assist milestone
Rossville setter Kenna Perine surpassed the 1,000-assist milestone for her career in the first match of her sophomore season in Saturday's Wellsville tournament.
Perine now has 1,063 career assists after helping lead the Bulldawgs to a 4-1 record on the day.
The Bulldawgs beat Baldwin, Prairie View, Burlington and Humboldt before dopping a three-set match to Wellsville in the championship match.
