Basehor-Linwood, ranked No. 5 this week in the Class 5A KFBCA poll, received the opening kickoff and scored a touchdown on an eight-play drive as senior running back Peter Rodriguez bulldozed his way into the end zone on a 13 yard run, giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.

Seaman’s first possession was promising as the Vikings were able to move the ball down the field.

Junior running back Quentin Moravec broke loose on a 54-yard run, taking the ball inside the 5-yard-line, but there was a penalty on the play for a block in the back. The drive stalled and eventually the Vikings turned the ball over on downs, giving the Bobcats the ball near midfield.

Basehor-Linwood took advantage of the good field position and senior place kicker Colin Zimbleman kicked a 26-yard field goal to give the Bobcats a 10-0 lead late in the first quarter.

The Vikings continued to drive the ball down the field on the Bobcats and finally were able to put points on the board as Moravec scored on a 37-yard run down the sideline, cutting the Basehor lead to 10-7.

However, Basehor-Linwood responded with a five minute drive that culminated in the second touchdown of the night for Rodriguez, giving the Bobcats a 17-7 lead.

Seaman had a time consuming drive of its own and was able to get inside the Bobcat 10-yard-line with under 15 seconds left in the first half.

On the ensuing first-down play, senior quarterback Cale Ketter attempted a pass to the end zone, but Bobcat senior Lex Stanion stepped in front of the pass, intercepted it and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the half.

Zimbleman’s extra point was good and Basehor-Linwood took a commanding 24-7 lead into halftime.

The second half began with Seaman scoring a touchdown in the first 90 seconds on a 51-yard pass from Ketter to fellow senior wide receiver Josh Brown. Junior place kicker Oscar Serrano made the extra point, cutting the Bobcat lead to 24-14.

Basehor-Linwood continued to move the ball with relative ease, but the drive stalled and the Bobcats had to settle for another field goal. Zimbleman connected on a 38-yard field goal, making the score 27-14.

Following an interception by Ketter, the Bobcats scored another touchdown, as Rodriguez punched it in from a yard out, extending the lead to 34-14.

Rodriguez capped off his tremendous night with his fourth touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter, giving the Bobcats a 41-14 lead. The Bobcat running back, who started due to an injury to original starter Gavin Mitchell, finished the night with 35 carries for 262 yards.

Seaman concluded their scoring on a weaving, 45-yard touchdown catch by senior wide receiver Jack Becker from Ketter, making the score 41-20 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Basehor-Linwood finished the scoring with a touchdown run from junior running back Thomas Schubert and a 91-yard interception return by junior defensive back Clay Weber, giving the Bobcats the 55-20 victory.

Seaman (0-2, 0-2) was led by Moravec with 112 yards rushing and a touchdown while Ketter threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings will host Shawnee Heights (1-1, 1-1), who were defeated by Leavenworth 37-29 in overtime, next Friday at 7:00.
