EASTON BRADSTREET, Washburn Rural

A senior, Bradstreet scored a total of three goals in two wins on the week as Washburn Rural's soccer team ran its record to 3-0 on the season. Bradstreet scored a goal in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Shawnee Heights and then added two more goals on Thursday as the Junior Blues survived a double-overtime thriller with Wichita Northwest, 4-3. Bradstreet now has seven goals on the year.

The Seaman golf star opened her senior season with an individual win in last Tuesday's season-opening Emporia Invitational at Emporia Municipal Golf Course, shooting a 77 to post a one-shot victory. Deeter tied for fifth place in the Class 5A state tournament in her only two seasons of high school golf, including last fall.

BRANTON DeWEESE, Washburn Rural

The Junior Blues' standout quarterback opened his junior season with a big night as Washburn Rural came from behind on four occasions to take a 49-42 non-league road win over Wichita East. An All-Shawnee County pick as a sophomore for the 8-2 Junior Blues, DeWeese completed 26 of 38 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns against East.

LENNY NJOROGE, Topeka West

Njoroge, a senior, ran his first high school cross country race in two years, posting a dominating victory in the season-opening Manhattan Invitational. Njoroge, who missed the 2021 season due to a broken leg suffered in a club soccer game, Njoroge clocked a five-kilometer time of 16 minute, 00.8 seconds, with Wamego junior Harrison Cutting second in 16:42.8. Njoroge is a two-time Class 5A state medalist in cross country and a state medalist in track.

TRE RICHARDSON, Highland Park

Richardson, a senior, accumulated more than 400 all-purpose yards and had a hand in six Highland Park touchdowns as the Scots snapped a 65-game losing streak dating back to 2014 with a 60-47 Meadowlark Conference victory over Kansas City-Wyandotte at Hummer Sports Park. Richardson rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns while also scoring on a 51-yard pass reception and throwing for a 44-yard TD.

KELLEN SIMONCIC, Washburn University

Simoncic, the Ichabods' sophomore quarterback, completed 15 of 21 pass attempts for 351 yards and three touchdowns in just over two quarters of work in Washburn University's season-opening 45-3 MIAA win over Lincoln. Simoncic, who was making his second career start, threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to James Letcher Jr., a 13-yard TD strike to Collin Wilson and a 17-yard TD pass to Peter Afful.
